Is C-Diff a bigger concern because of mc?

Post by IDreamInColor »

I watched my dad nearly die when he contracted c-diff after a colon surgery, and gall bladder surgery and a hospital stay. It makes me wonder if having mc makes us more apt to contract c-diff.

Next question..if I would happen to need an antibiotic say for a tooth abcess which antibiotic should I request from the dentist, is there one that would cause less problems than another because of the mc?

I think my LC may have been triggered by an abscess under a tooth that had a previous root canal......I couldn't figure out why it felt so weird when the nerve was gone.

I Dream,

Several of us, (at least), have had C. diff, (I can think of at least 3 or 4, offhand). We probably are a bit more vulnerable, because many/most of us tend to have unbalanced gut bacteria populations in connection with MC. Here is some info on antibiotics:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Yes, I think it is risky, but there are certain antibiotics that are more likely to cause C-Diff.....I have a list I keep for myself, just in case a Doc tries to put me on one.

Check out these links:

Also, Antibiotics that rarely if ever cause C. difficile colitis include:

•tetracycline,

•metronidazole (Flagyl),

•vancomycin (Vancocin), and

•aminoglycosides [such as gentamicin (Garamycin)].

Also, I have taken Avelox and Cipro, and had no problems.

Good luck,
Karen
