GF Cookbook Review

Post by bevfromwa »

Sorry, I can't resist this, and it makes me appreciate Dee even more--can't wait for her cookbook to come out!

I checked out Gluten Free Girl and the Chef Cookbook from the library. I was looking forward to maybe finding something new to cook--glad I didn't buy it. If you don't have enough GF ingredients in your pantry, then this book is for you. I have ten different flours--they would have me buy more. If you like exotic, expensive, not readily available ingredients, then buy this book. If you would like to simplify and stay within a budget, don't. If you have any intolerance other than gluten, forget about this book. Lots of dairy, soy, etc. in most of the recipes. I found one bread recipe that I tried, and it was quite good, but not worth the effort. I had to grind GF oats to get oat flour, and grind almonds to get almond flour, not an easy feat unless you like almond butter!

Whereas the book is beautifully done, with tempting photos, it just isn't helpful, even for a fairly competent cook like I consider myself to be. One gals opinion, but hope it is helpful to someone.

Happy New Year to all from Beverly[/i]
