side effects from entocort

Post by Andi »

Hi. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I have been on entocort for about 3 weeks because I had a horrible flare and could not eat for almost a month.
I noticed today that my face and neck look really puffly, and I am gaining weight in my midsection.
I work out every day, am a vegetarian and eat a healthy diet. Weight has never been a problem for me, the only thing I am doing differently is taking the entocort.
I know entocort has less side effects than other steroids, but is it possibly to get a puffy face and neck, and gain weight, esp. in the stomach?
Thanks for any advice.

Andi with corticosteroids including Entocort that is a common pattern of fat redistribution. It will return to normal once you stop taking it. I believe with rapid weight gain like that you should keep an eye on your blood pressure as water retention is a possibility. If you have any concerns be sure to contact your doctor.

I haven't had any puffiness or weight gain from taking Entocort, but we are all different.

Thanks for the replies. I guess it is true that we all react differently.
I know it supresses the immune system so I am curious if people have noticed they get sick more often, and what they do to keep their immune system functioning better.
I will definitely keep an eye on blood pressure, have a doctors appt. this week.

I'm glad you are getting in to see your doctor this week. When I was on the Entocort I did have a puffy face and neck all last summer. After I stopped taking it in November it did return to normal after about 6 weeks

Andi,

I've never noticed that I'm more susceptible to illness because of Entocort. My husband, daughters and grandchildren have all been sick this year, but I haven't. I attribute that to taking 5,000+ IU of vitamin D during the winter; 3,000+ IUs during the summer. Plus, I take Coldeeze as soon as I feel a cold coming. Works every time.

That's a good point Gloria. I have been taking 7k IU of D3 for the last about 5 weeks to get my levels up (they were low again) Since then it seems everyone around me has been sick and I have not gotten anything.

I do take vit D, but my last blood tests showed I had too much so I stopped.
Coldeeze, I never heard of it but I will look for it at drugstore.

Joe,
So you did have the puffy face and neck like I am getting. I am glad to hear it went away after getting of entocort. Not sure how much longer I will be on entocort but I dont want to go back to feeling sick.

Yeah I did, it started in June and had just finally gone down over the past 4 weeks. Certainly a puffy face is a small price to pay for feeling well, as long as there are no other issues of concern.
