Idream,

If memory serves, don't you live in Ohio? If so, I would take advantage of the Cleveland Clinic to help to get things figured out with you. Though I am somewhat better, I still feel like I may have a multi-factorial problem going on. So I am seeing a GI specialist at IU medical school in March (could not get in any sooner). It would probably take 6 months to get into Cleveland, but you can get on a cancellation list.

Just a thought.

Idream,

Cholestyramine powders always do the trick for me. They are underprescribed and not widely known, but ask your GI for them. They tried to use them in a study of MC but discontinued them due to patient intolerance. They are horrible in water, but will dissolve in juice. I know it seems crazy to drink juice in the middle of a flare, BUT IT WORKS!!! Not just for me, but for other members of my family who have struggled for years with the big D.

I can't take steroids or Asacol, so I have to find alternatives...

Dear I Dream,
Please do everything possible to avoid surgery. I, like many others here, know your frustration. While in the hospital on a drip that was not staying ahead of the BIG D, I was ready to do anything to stop it. But, try to avoid that drastic option.

I know from your earlier posts that you struggle with other issues which complicate your life. I am glad you came to this board. At least there are people here who understand.

One of the things I like to do before I let a doctor operate is ask to speak to other patients who have had the surgery. In this internet age, you can find others to talk to. I understand at least one of our PP colleagues has had the surgery. PM that person.

What drugs have you tried? And, what can you tolerate?

Good luck. I hope you get a break from the bathroom soon!
