Soooo, I found a cure
Unfortunately this cure was short lived and not an option for long term use.
Two weeks ago I had to have a tooth removed which was a shame because I didn't even have a cavity. But there was a bone pocket forming and it was infected and the dentist thought best that the tooth be removed, the other option was surgery. Anyway, because of my immune system being crap I developed a dry socket, as well as a secondary infection, the pain got pretty severe. The doctor called me in a prescription for vicodin. I've always hated taking any kind of pain reliever because it makes my head feel funny, and because I was afraid it might stir up the colitis. But after a few days of intense pain I couldn't take it any longer and broke down and started taking the vicodin. Well don't you know that the vicoden put my potties back to normal!!! I only took one vicodin per day for a week, and for the first time in years I was normal!!! It felt great!!!
Well, I don't need the vicoden anymore, the pain has lessened considerably, so I quit taking the vicoden 2 days ago, and now I'm back to loosey goosey. I sure did enjoy that week of being normal though.
Is vicodin an nsaid?

I know what you mean. Before I was diagnosed with LC my doctor Rx vicoprofin which is the same as vicodin but with ibuprofen instead of acetaminophen. He Rx for all the pain I was feeling in my neck and muscles. He told me take it exactly as Rx but the pharmacy put 1 pill twice a day instead of twice a day as needed. I called the doctors office and they said take it twice a day. I actually got constipation and thought I was going to have to take a laxative to get to go! Safe to say I was pretty uncomfortable for 3 days but like you as soon as it was out of my system the d was back stronger than every, probably worse becasue of the ibuprofen that is supposed to be bad for us.

Vicodin is a narcotic angesic, so it slows down motility in the gut. The problem with taking narcotics, is that they can slow down motility so much that someone taking them can develop a life-threatening impaction, without them even realizing what is happening. We have one or two members who have wound up in the hospital because of that issue.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Dream,
Lomotil will also slow the slow the gut process. I used it for a short while after my DX and found it very effective. Much safer too.
Ask your Doc about it.
Love,
Joanna
