This isn't meant to be a political post, (though it may seem that way on the surface). It's about integrity, and how it is going down the drain, because of profit motives. I can still remember the days when news reporting was unbiased, and honest. As you and I both know, that is no longer the norm - many/most news agencies these days have an ulterior motive - profit, the more the better, and the higher the profit, the more the news is sensationalized, and "selectively" reported, in order to boost ratings, and ad sales.
I don't know if you are/were a fan of Ted Koppel or not, but an article that he wrote for the Washington Post, back in November, describes one of this country's biggest problems very articulately, and elucidates why our moral fiber is being increasingly flooded with negative influences that can have very serious long-term effects. The news media's all-out drive to profit from the news, is, IMO, doing grave damage to our ability to think for ourselves, and to think rationally, in this country. The article is fairly long, (2 pages), but he does a much better job than I can, in bringing the facts to light. I for one, truly miss the days of honest and unbiased news reporting - from back in the days when all the newsrooms operated at a loss. Many of today's news reporters remind me of smooth-talking, high-pressure sales reps, rather than news reporters.
