It has been almost 6 weeks now since I stopped taking all the pills the Dr's have been giving me for my MC. I could make a list of the 14 different meds they gave me and none of them helped. In fact for me they made things worse.
The pain was so bad most of the time I could hardly stand or walk and it was that way for over7 months.
In 3 weeks of stopping the meds and just adjusting my dite I was feeling alot better!!!!!!
I don't eat some foods I did before...raw veggies & fruit and no lactose. I drink alot of hot tea (4 to 6 cups a day) and I feel great! I do have a pain management plan..but I don't think I should post it here ( will gladly answer a private message)
My bowels have been normal 99% of the time and only going 1 or 2 times a day not the 10 to 15 times it was.
The pain levels have been at a 2 or 3 max not the 8 or 9 it was for such a long time.
AND I have been able to go back to work after 9 months of this.
Let this be a message of hope! I had all but given up..then just did what I felt was best for me.
Right or wrong it worked for me.
Wow, that's great news. Makes me think you were intolerant to some of those meds too! Are you eating gluten free? Have you completely eliminated any type of food, or are you simply doing less fiber, no lactose, etc?
Sounds like the meds were really causing a lot of your issues. I too, just cut our veggies unless they are cooked well, no fruits yet, except for peeled apples. I watch fat intake and lactose. Last week I started adding a little milk at breakfast, about 1/4 of a cup. No medications. I dropped from 115 to 105 pounds and am trying to put some back on. Did you lose a lot of weight?
No..I don't have an issue with gluten, but I do have to watch how much white bread I eat because of the milk in some of them.
as far as the rest. I stay away from veggies that have a skin ..like bell peppers unless they are roasted then peeled and cooked fully.
Corn can be a minor problem but it hasnt been too bad. I can eat beans..like pinto, baked etc with little problem if I keep the portion size under control.
Pizza was a real killer for me....the 1/2 cooked veggies tore me up not to mention the lactose in the mozzoralla cheese.
So..I sauteed the veggies soft with a little olive oil. then sprinkeld them on the pizza before cooking and switched to cheddar cheese because most cheddars have very little to no lactose swiss cheeses (aged) are ok too.
The only real issues have been the raw veggies and lactose....other than that I can pretty much eat what I want.
I really do miss salads and have been trying things like cucumbers with no seeds and tomatoes also with no seeds in a little vinigar a little at a time to see if I can handel it. I have found out that really chewing up before swallowing seems to help.
However it didn't work with letuce or celery..now matter how much I chewed. ( celery cooked isnt a problem)
This is such good news. As has been said on here before, we each have to find our own way through diet, meds. or both. I am med free also. I do eat salads, but usually take an Immodium before, especially if it's more than 1 day in a row. Congradulations on finding what works for you.

changing your diet is the key to wellness with MC...I figured it out on my own 10 years ago, and after my first flare 9 months ago, I changed my diet again, and I am on my way to remission again. It is imperative to change your diet.
Congratulations on having things so under control. As others have said - show how individual this is for each one of us. I for one could not adapt to your plan but then others could. Wish you the best and stay well.

Wow, Fillard, that is good news. Good for you for listening to yourself! Have you shared your success with your doctor? I wonder what he/she will think about that. Hopefully they will remember it if they ever have another patient who gets worse on the meds they are given.

I believe that MC inflammation has many causes and that is why there are so many individual routes to remission. As each of us finds a way, the knowledge of how to beat this complex thing get advanced to another level.
