Probiotics

Post by TooManyHats »

I had been taking Ultimate Flora Critical Colon. I read the label and it says "This product may contain mild traces of milk and soy proteins from fermentation ingredients". I'm guessing this product is now out for me ( :duh: I have a brand new box, too!).

Does anyone know of a gluten, dairy, and soy free probiotic and where to get it? Thanks in advance!

Some of the more recent discussions may contain additional suggestions, but offhand, dairy-free probiotics are a somewhat scarce commodity. I've never taken any, personally, but I'm thinking that Culturelle now makes one that is supposedly dairy-free, and of course, VSL#3 makes some, (the flavored versions contain dairy, though, I believe).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I have been taking GI Pro Health Scdophilus 3+ for a few weeks now. It is the first one that I haven't had a reaction that I can tell. It has only Lactobacillus acidophilus and nothing more. It is a non-dairy, maltodextrin-free certified strain. It comes packaged with a cold pack and comes quickly. Not cheap - shipping is about $15 cause of the packaging. I've taken VSL #3 in the past which is also packaged with cold packs but it has other ingredients in it and may have dairy (from their site). Good luck!

Thank you. I will look to see what the archives show.

But I don't know why I didn't just check here:

http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/ViewProductD ... D@183.aspx

Does Not Contain

Sugar, casein, gluten, soy, wheat, milk, corn, artificial colorings, artificial flavorings, gelatin, yeast, peanuts, tree nuts or fish.

They used to be my go-to place to order from. It just got easier to get something from a store I go to locally. Pricey though. I can't imaging that I don't need some kind of probiotic after all that time with D.

If you go to http://www.iherb.com you will find just about anything, they offer steep discounts on most products (38% off Culturelle veggie caps, for example), and free USPS shipping over $40. If you decide to order anything, PM me and I will get a referral credit and you will get something like $5 off your first order.

Marliss,

Thank you for the recommendation! I see that DF Culturelle is $16.95, plus $4 shipping. That's still $5 cheaper than what I've been paying locally.

Andrew Lessman's Procap Labs has "Friendly Flora". It's got nothing in it except pre and probiotics in a gel cap. It's fantastic. I've been off Entocort 10 days and counting since starting this. I think the prebiotics is the key for me. I've taken all sorts of probiotics that did nothing but never took prebiotics. Inexpensive too -- 30 caps for $9.99. I take one a day. I've had bad D since June 2002. This is such a joy to me. Hope it keeps working!
