New York City Gluten Free?

Post by Celie »

Hi all,
My DH and I are planning a trip to New York in a couple of weeks. This will be my first real gluten free trip. Do any of you have suggestions for great gluten free dining?

Celie,

When I first read your subject line, I thought your post was to tell us that the mayor of NYC had declared it a gluten-free zone. I must admit that I was mighty skeptical.

Hi Celie,

We were just there over Christmas, just for the day, but I investigated several places. Wish I saved my notes because now I am going from memory. There are many options.

1. Bloom's Deli on Lexington (sandwiches, burgers, roast chicken etc)
2. Hale and Hearty Soup - several locations throughout the city. We ate at the one in Grand Central Station. They offer lots of yummy soups and can tell you exactly what the ingredients and they are labeled GF/DF etc. They also have wonderful salads.
3. Risotteria in the Village. Never made it here but wanted to and ran out of time. Their specialty is risotto but they have other GF items.
4. Bistango (Italian food)
5. Lily and Liu (Asian)
6. Candle 79
7. Baby Cakes an Tu Lu's (bakeries)
8. There are many places for GF pizza, like Mozzarelli's . . .

Just google it and you will find many options. I have found that it's best to do lots of homework before travelling. I looked at menus and contacted owners, so I felt very prepared.

Have fun!

Bistango is so yummy!!! Looks like Mary Beth put that down as well, I highly recommend it. The owner is very nice and I believe his daughter is celiac.
