blood test

Post by jmayk8 »

My doctor gave me a blood test after my colon/endo last week and tested for;
TTG Ab, IgA and just a plain IgA

my TTG Ab, IgA came back this morning at 1.3
and the test for just the IgA won't come in until tomorrow. Does anyone know what this means?

You list two test results, but only give one number, (1.3). If that's the TTG result, then it should be a negative result for anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies, IOW, it suggests that you do not have an autoimmune reaction taking place. If that's the the anti-gliadin IgA test result, then that's a negative result, also. Unfortunately, the blood tests are pretty much worthless for anyone who doesn't have fully-developed celiac disease. The IgA test simply checks to make sure that you are capable of producing normal amounts of immunoblobulin type A.

That's why most of us use the stool tests at Enterolab. They are sensitive enough to be able to detect those antibodies in the stool, several years before they show up in the blood, in most cases. The blood tests are notorious for false negative results.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
