lazy lady got punished for her laziness

Post by harma »

As lazy as I sometimes can be, I was fed up with cooking rise every morning. Soy/gluten free rices pops are impossible to find here, so I thought I found a solution: rice flakes. Don't think they are like corn flakes. These flakes need to be cooked too or (the lazy solution) soak them overnight in, for example, rice milk. As I did, wednesday night and last night. Tasted okay, but last night I didn't sleep very well. Stupid cow Harma or better said donkey (Dutch expression saying "a donkey normally does not bump twice into the same stone", well this dutch donkey did) ate the same rice flakes breakfast this morning.

And now I am sitting on the sofa, with an upset bowel. No pain or D, but a very bloated uncomfortable feeling. I don't know what it is, but when eat something wrong (in the sense "I can't digest it, because the gut is still so sensitive), my main problem is can't sleep well due to the upset bowel.

I can assure you, tomorrow morning I will be cook my rice again

Harma--

Don't beat yourself up--I did something even worse. I grabbed a couple of my nephew's "granola bars" for a snack, without reading the ingredients! Wheat flour, soybean oil, milk, corn syrup, etc., over and over again. Needless to say, I did not have a good morning. I should by stock in an underwear and bedding company.

Love,

Harma,

I hope you're feeling much better by tomorrow morning.

And I love that dutch expression - I have that problem myself, now and then.

Harma,

As Mags said, don't beat yourself up. I am here to tell you that it is possible to make mistakes even after 10 years of restricted diet. I am on MRT phase II foods (my least reactive ones) and have to be absolutely sure of what I am eating and careful to add only one new food a day. Sunflower seeds are one of my least reactive foods, but two days ago when I ate them, I reacted. Turns out on the bag in fine print it lists peanut oil. I was lazy and just assumed they were safe because they were organic, unsalted, etc. I can't believe I didn't read the fine print after all these years of dancing around land mines. So I'll join you in the cow pasture. Hope you feel much better in the morning.

Love,

Polly

Dear Harma

Hope you are better.

I do not think anyone on this site can be called lazy, least of all you!

Best, ant

Harma,
as others have said dont be hard on yourself, having to be super diligent about our ingredients and preparation of our meals is exhausting!

last summer when i was first diagnosed i didnt miss fruit and salad, i was so determined to be well i would have two fans operating in the kitchen so i could do my cook ups.
this year i am really missing fruit and salad. At the moment it is quite hot and humid here, i have really missed being able to have fruit or salad.
damn me for being allergic to banana's.....

Hi Harma, I'm sorry to hear that you had a rough day, it just goes to show us how easy it is to slip up. All of us have at one point or another I would imagine.

I do have rice sometimes in the morning, but I only cook it once or twice a week. Like others I cook it well done and soft. I cook a large enough batch for several meals and put this in a airtight container in the refrigerator. It seems to keep fine and warms up in the microwave in the morning quite well. I then will add any flavors like honey or maple syrup.

Another food that I have tolerated well is a puffed rice cereal by Ewehorn. I'm not sure its available there, I have this with almond milk and its great. It softens up easily in a milk like product.

Thanks for sharing Harma and I'm glad you are feeling better.

Harma
i am not sure if the cartoon 'the simpons' is translated and shown in your country - your analogy translated re the donkey has been modernised.

the main character is frequently shown in doing these type of actions, he will hurt himself, say DOH! and then do the exact same action again. as a cartoon for kids this is really funny, if you scratch the surface and look at the message they are sending, there are many people who do spend their lives this way, repeating the same actions that cause them issues the first time.

I didnt appreciate this program 14 years ago when it started and never watched it, now adays i love it, and now that i am having contact with quite a few americans via this family, i have more insight into some of the content.
speaking of which it is due to start and will be my entertainment during my weekly cook up!

Yes I have heard of the Simpsons, isn't it a television show on MTV? Funny, they use the "donkey thing" is in this cartoon too.

Joe, that cooking one big pan of rice once a week, freeze it in smaller portions and heat it up in the microwave, I used that method in Jordan. Only back home I don't have a microwave.

Glad you are feeling better Harma.

No matter how we try and as cautious as we are we hit the land mines every now and then. Also love the donkey expression and sometimes I am right in that pack of donkeys.

Love, Maggie

Hi Harma, I hate cooking in the morning, too. (no time) My solution is similar to Joes except I use a crockpot. I have several sizes and usually do a large batch and then keep it in the fridge in a container and warm it up as I need it. I have a very small one that my husband likes to use which makes the right portion for him in the morning for his Irish oatmeal. I don't know if that's an option for you, but it is so nice to get up and it's all cooked and warm. JoAnn

Harma, we refer to a "slow cooker" in the US as a crockpot. Since getting MC it is my "go to" appliance for many meals. You just have to think ahead and make sure you have about 8-12 hours for things to cook. I usually put things in before I go to bed, and in the morning they are done and taste much better than stove top cooking or oven cooking in my opinion. I make enough so I can put things in containers that I use all week for lunch or dinner. For breakfast, I put a cup of sweet rice (glutinous rice, although it has no gluten) and 5 cups of water in the crockpot before I go to bed. When I get up, I have a beautiful hot meal that I add bananas or other fruit to and cinnamon. It is very filling and soothing to my gut. I put the rest in containers and use them during the week. I really like this kind of rice with Tilapia fish. Checkout the following link which gives some information and just do an internet search for crockpots and you'll find all kinds of information and recipes. I think there's some good ones in Dees kitchen as well. I take my crockpot along on trips because it's small and and I can use it just about anywhere and know I'll have a safe meal. I think I'm going to try Joe's ribs in the crockpot soon. They come in many sizes too. I have a small, medium, and large one. I hope this is helpful to you, Love JoAnn
