Eye changes and MC.

Post by Mags »

Has any one else noticed major changes in their eyes after developing MC? I had worn contacts for over 20 years but was suddenly unable to wear them. They became extremely uncomfortable very quickly, and I was replacing them twice or three times a week until I finally gave up and got new glasses. I am cautiously trying to wear them again, now that I can get the Oasis kind in my prescription, but I am wondering if this is a fairly common problem?

Please let me know---

Mags one of the symptoms listed with MC is iritis or uveitis. These are inflammatory conditions that can affect different parts of the eye and I would imagine affect wearing of contact lenses.

One of the first symptoms i noticed was uveitis about 6 months before the D really got going. I was at the optometrist several times and had to take prednisone eye drops.

It does seem that with various IBD's that issues with the eyes can develop

(Note: this like many other articles gets the issue of gluten quite wrong)
Patients diagnosed with LC also have had uveitis, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, juvenile diabetes mellitus, pernicious anemia, autoimmune thyroid disease, and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Mags
about 4 years ago i had a rare type of keriatitis that did not respond to treatment as it should and had the specialists mystified, i also had severe fatigue and what i thought were excerbated IBS symptoms, so they sent me to an immunologist. he did the plenthry of blood tests and when nothing showed up other than the cortisol issue with my adrenals they shrugged their shoulders and said we dont know what is going on.
at the time i was not sick enough to be put into hospital, then again i was not well enough to work. I had 5 weeks off work, and due to the eye issue didnt drive for over 2 weeks as my ability to gauge distance was very bad.

Coming to this site, and based on the various discussions i am pretty certain this was my first (or maybe second) MC attack.

since that time i have not been able to wear mascara or eyeliner, and over the past 16 months i get irritation to eye shadow, given that most of these products contain soy could be part (or all) of the reason.

when i am feeling poorly (digestion pain, fatigued) the white of my eyes gets very cloudy beige/grey colour and inflammed. my naturopath friend can tell when i am not 100% based on that one indicator.

Joe,

You seem to be right on the money with those articles. Now that the inflammation has subsided, and I alternate days wearing glasses and contacts, I don't seem to be having problems.

You were right about that second article too. I really liked how they pointed out that incontinence was a was related to the age of the patient instead of MC. Perhaps I should let them know that mine started at 35!!!

Wow Gabes, that's tough. I don't take any big meds either, but what is going on with my eyes is not anything like what you go through.

Thanks for the info--now I know what to tell my opthomalogist!

Love,

Mags
