I know some of you follow the paleo diet and do quite well. My question is how do you do with all the fiber from eating tons of fruits and vegetables required on this diet? The diet seems like exactly what we as humans are meant to eat.......but I know fiber is rough on us MCer's!! Thanks for any input you may have
Hi Kim, the fiber is one of the reasons I don't do a 100% Paleo diet, first the gut needs time to heal (as tex is always telling us). After that, 100% Paleo shouldn't be a problem. On my non paleo list: rice in morning, applesauce, fruit juice, rice milk, rice cakes. On my paleo list: veggies but only carrots, spinach and broccoli, fruit but only banana's (my staple food) and apples out of the oven, meat, fish (but sometimes out of a tin).
So as long as I need my medication and adding more ingredients to my diet isn'talways working well, I stick to my paleo lookalike diet. For me there are two sites on this diet I am on, on one site what is good, what is healthy, what is paleo. But on the other hand also how can I manage with my gf, sf, df, yf, cf and ef diet. If that includes some non paleo thing, that It be so.

that is great power of this group we learn from each other. I am glad, my advice is of any use for you. Good luck with modifying the diet.

What I do is limit my veggies to cooked, rather than fresh. I have found that if I don't eat fresh every day, just every couple of days, I don't have any problem. Also, I try to eat what is in season, because I think that's truly what our foreparents did. As much as I love melon and cherries in the winter, they aren't available without being imported.

I eat a modified paleo diet that is comprised of a few well cooked veggies, bananas, rice and meats. I have found that keeping this simple diet has given me the most benefit for the CC and the Crohns that I deal with. I have recently been able to add GF/SF pancakes and even some GF/DF/SF chocolate chip cookies.
At times it seems boring and I do wish I could eat out, or even just be able to eat these types of foods with others (not many eat this way). But overall it really does help.
Thanks soo much Joe and Jan for your input. It sure is tricky figuring this all out....isn't it?!! Having this internet family to bounce things off of sure makes this journey easier! Best wishes to you both and thanks again!
The other thing that I did when I was first diagnosed was to keep a food diary. That's when I found out that spinach (due to the acidic nature of it) tore me up no matter how well cooked. As you venture down this path of discovery it might help you. You may have to back way off at first of foods and then be able to add them back in later. Good luck.
