Hi Lisa, its good I guess that your doctor is making sure to monitor your bloodwork if you decide to take these meds. As you know MC can be tough to treat especially without a proper diet in place and I am sure you will be able to sort out what foods may be affecting you.

I have to go get my blood drawn every 8 weeks to monitor how my liver and immune system is responding to the meds I am taking. At first, the thought of taking these meds bothered me some, but I did the research and asked a lot of questions here and on other boards and came to the conclusion this was the best option for me at this time.

It can be tough when your doctor does not offer any advice on a diet, but at this point GI docs for the most part are just not trained that way. I was pretty lucky that my doc does understand the need for the diet and even gave me an article that discussed the benefits of removing gluten from our diets to help with MC (LC or CC). I believe I sent you a copy of that article a while ago.

The good news Lisa is that you have a definite diagnosis so you know what you are dealing with now. You also have many friends here with boatloads of experience that are willing to help you. Finally you have a doctor who is willing to work with you in finding a medication that will help you should you want to take one.

Hang in there Lisa, you have the tools that you need to get control over this part of your life.

Thanks for keeping us updated and I look forward to hearing about your success in managing MC

Take care Lisa

lisa15601 wrote:The bloodwork I am talking about is the bloodworks that needs to be done while on some of these medications. Like for your liver and kidneys. The doc mentioned nothing of that sort. Thats what I was talking about. And I did try going gluten, dairy and soy free for almost a month and ended up in the hospital. Also, I had bad side affects from entocort. Major insomnia, tremors, etc.
I may be confused, but I think Lisa is concerned with the fact that the doctor hasn't talked about tests to monitor her kidneys and liver.

Lisa, were you taking Entocort while you were gluten, dairy, and soy free? Could the fact that you wound up in the hospital be from side effects from the medication rather than from the diet?

Arlene I do believe you are right... I missed that. Thats what happens when you read too fast...

With that said Lisa, you do not need blood work done for most medications. There are only a few that would require it. Hopefully you will not

MC itself does not require any monitoring as it does not directly affect your liver or kidneys.

Sorry about that Lisa, I should have read that more carefully, I don't mean to confuse you.

Thanks for pointing that out Arlene
