My son's Enterolab test results

Post by Kari »

Hi everyone,

As I've mentioned before, I had my son tested at Enterolab. Since I have the double gene for gluten sensitivity, he has at least one, so I thought that was a good enough reason to have it done. Here are his results:

Gluten Sensitivity Stool Test
Fecal Anti-gliadin IgA 10 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)

Cow's Milk Protein Sensitivity Stool Test
Fecal Anti-casein (cow’s milk) IgA 8 Units (Normal Range is less than 10 Units)

I just spoke to my DIL, and she said she will attempt to make their household gluten free - yeah!!! Chances are that at least one of my 3 grandchildren is gluten sensitive, and who knows - perhaps all 3 of them are??? My son and DIL have seen how much I suffer, which makes them so much more willing to be proactive with their health. Thank goodness for Enterolab!!!

Love,
Kari

Kari, that's great that your daughter-in-law is willing to go gluten-free. Often it's hard to get family members on board, when they don't have a problem themselves.

Martha

Martha - yes, I consider myself lucky that she is willing to go along. She has watched how much I suffer, so she doesn't want to see her children go through such agony!!!

Willabec - yes, I'm very pleased with Enterolab - they are professional and courteous. It takes them about 3 weeks to turn around the results. For myself, it was definitely worth it, as I discovered that I was also dairy and yeast intolerant. The things they test for are gluten/wheat, dairy, soy, eggs and yeast.

Morning Kari,

So happy to hear your DIL is willing to have her family go along with being GF. I am sure in the long run it will definitely benefit them.

Love, Maggie

Hoping your DIL will get co-operation from the rest of the family. It's not an easy task to accomplish, especially when they aren't seeing any symptoms yet. Hope knowing your situation will inspire all of them.

After my son got his results that he is gluten sensitive, we decided to have the whole family tested at Enterolab, including my DIL. Sadly, my 3 grandchildren all tested positive for gluten - all with high numbers. DIL came in at 9, so she is borderline. I am glad we got this confirmed, since it has removed any doubt about making their household gluten free.

This really makes me wonder how many people out there in the general public are gluten sensitive without realizing it, and damaging their gut little by little, day by day, like most of us here did.

Kari

Wow. Did any of the grandkids have any symptoms? I'm thinking about testing my kids, but they are not symptomatic right now.

Kari,

I have to hand it to your DIL and son. It takes courage to go GF when no symptoms are present. They must have a lot of respect for you and how you've managed your MC if they are willing to follow in your footsteps.

Kari,

That's great that you all were proactive and had everyone tested. Sorry to hear the grandkids were positive. It's tough for the kids especially when they eat at school parties or at friends houses.

I'm with Zizzle, you have me thinking I should get my children tested. My 18 year old is like a clone of me. Not only do we look alike we have so many idiosyncrasies and nuances that are the same. She even gets shooting pains in her belly once in a while and has mentioned that she hopes she doesn't end up with my problems. It sounds like she is definitely a candidate.

Zizzle - None of them have the stomach symptoms, but the boy has terrible airborne allergies that he struggles with - he seems to always have a slightly clogged up and runny nose. The 2 girls are pretty healthy.

Gloria - My DIL was 37 when she had the first one, and then had the other 2 pretty quickly. My son is a few years younger. I think the fact that they waited 10 years to have kids, to feel more secure career wise, has made a considerable difference in how they view parenthood. I think they would make any sacrifice for their kids, especially when it comes to their health. Of course, also seeing my intense struggle with MC is quite a motivator. As I'm sure you can relate to, often it feels like MC is a person trying to take over my life  .

Kelly - My son is a lot like me both physically and mentally, so I know what you mean. It is probably a good idea to have your children tested, as gluten intolerance seems to run in the genes. I have double gluten sensitivity genes, so I knew that my son had inherited at least one from me. If your 18 year old has stomach issues, you may want to start the testing with her. Lots of luck to you.

Love,
Kari
