Lisa both of those cereals are GF according to the manufacturer. The ingredients for the cocoa pebbles is:
Rice, Sugar, Polydextrose (Source of Fiber)Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Coconut and Palm Kernel Oils)Cocoa (Processed with Alkali)Salt, Caramel Color, Artificial and Natural Flavor, BHA (to Help Protect Flavor)Vitamins and Minerals: Niacinamide, Reduced Iron, Zinc Oxide (Source of Zinc)Vitamin B6, Vitamin A Palmitate, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)Thiamin Mononitrate (Vitamins B1)Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D.
The ingredients that may cause issues are caramel color as this is often made with wheat (so may not be GF). The other thing that catches my eye are the oils that are used. Here is where going to simpler foods for a while may help. At this point you do not know what food items may be bothering you, figuring out those items while eating foods like this can be tough as there are so many ingredients.

For breakfasts I eat eggs, bananas and GF bread or pancakes that are made from scratch. Eating this way allows me to slowly add another food item and see how I do with it.

For me, my rule of thumb is that I will not eat any factory processed foods like this until I know if the ingredients are ok separately first. Another concern is that many of these mass produced foods are subject to change without notice and that can cause unexpected problems.

For the time being try to put together a simple menu for all 3 meals. What may be a good idea is for you to start a post here and let the group help you with your menu. There is a LOT of experience here, you might as well use it as a resource.

I am sure the group would love to help you with this. Getting your diet under control is the first nad most important step right now.

I feel your pain. I have nothing to eat for breakfast because of this flare I'm having. I have no idea what is causing it/caused it. I'm down to chicken, hamburger, and rice. When and if the D ever stops perhaps I can figure out something to eat for breakfast, but in the meantime, I just skip it. Not the best strategy I know, but I don't know what else to do.

I ate well-cooked Cream of Rice or well-cooked grits (white corn meal) with maple sugar when I didn't know what else to eat. I don't know if you can eat corn, however.

I was tolerating eggs and bananas, but now I tolerate nothing including the few foods I'm eating.

Hi Lisa, I too like my cereals in the morning sometimes and have found an excellent product line that is GF and a "health food" in that it does not have tons of preservatives etc...

Check out the Erewhon GF products that this company makes at:

I have found these products at the following stores in Massachusetts.

A Market Health food store (Lexington)... probably at most good sized health food stores.


What I found amazing about these is they do not taste like cardboard which many "healthy" cereals can they are quite good. I like the "Rice Twice" and the Strawberry Crisp" ones but they have many other choices as well.

Why not try GF Rice Chex or honey nut GF chex? There are many GF cereals available in the healthfood section of supermarkets too. Cocoa and fruity pebbles are mostly sugar and will mean a sluggish start to your day. You can also make a hot cereal with leftover white rice, adding a milk substitute, dry or fresh fruits, nuts and a sweetener like maple syrup or honey.

I agree. I have tried the Fruity Pebbles a couple of times, and I don't react to them, but they are so sweet that I have trouble forcing myself to eat them. I have a hunch that back when I was reacting, all that sugar would have been enough to made me sick.

We are hooked on "Envirokidz" cereals. "Leapin' Lemurs" and "Amazon Frosted Flakes" are a couple of our favorites. They do have soy oil in them however :-(

Yes, I like Envirokidz Peanut Butter puffs too. Hadn't thought about the soy, but I seem to tolerate soy oil and fermented soy (GF soy sauce).

I totally agree with Tex and Zizzle - why all the sugar? There are many GF cereals out there and if you really want to handle this disease and adjust your diet, it would be good to start with less offensive foods and in my opinion - try to reduce the sugar and additives.

You want to get better and this would be a good start.

I buy Fruity or Cocoa Pebbles for my son occaisioanlly so he can have cereal as a snack. They are cheaper, enriched and lower in fat than gluten free cookies. Yep, it's pure crap, but OK for a sweet treat now and then.

So they are gluten free? Having it as a snack is a good idea rather than breakfast. The sugar rush would send me crashing down in a couple of hours if eaten as a meal.
