based on the discussion in the other thread about whether rice is an anti-inflammatory or not. i think this is classic case that via the internet you can find information to prove both sides of the story - which one is true? IMO - who cares
i listen to my body......
when i am having digestion issues, gooey rice works for me, it is cheap, easy to make and it has more nutritional value than GF cereals etc
both of these are from the web
Rice protein is a much-mentioned topic for people looking for protein sources that are vegetarian. Unlike whey powder, made from dairy, and soy, which can causes digestive problems for some, rice protein is often more easily digested, and shares with the soy the advantage of being completely vegan. Some people on gluten free diets use rice protein powder since it is free of gluten, and others cite the main advantage is that it is less expensive than whey protein powder.
White rice is a natural tonic, has diuretic properties, is free from cholesterol and has digestive and anti-inflammatory properties.

I agree with you, Gabes. Gooey rice is a mainstay for me and a wonderful comfort food. I also try to listen to my body and my body says it's good for me

Just to jump in on the other side I really feel best when I eat no grain at all, including rice As a guest I would not have a problem eating a chicken or turkey stuffed with rice stuffing, unlike a bread stuffing that would contaminate everything, I would just push the rice aside. So it is not a huge problem just a little niggling one.
However...
The nicest thing i can do for myself is to change my mind so I am open to suggestion. I am aware that some rice mixes contain gluten so don’t even look at them. Years ago I tried several kinds of plain rice without much success. Brown rice with all its fiber did not work either . Maybe i just picked the wrong kind for me at the time.
I would love to hear what kind of rice is best for those that it works well for. Nothing about my MC diet is written in stone. Maybe in sawdust that will blow away in the wind at any given time with a change of mind.
Mathew I have been eating jasmine white rice recently, but have had a plain white rice for quite a while as well. They both settle quite well. The jasmine rice just has a little more natural flavor.
I assume they're talking about glutinous rice, also known as sticky rice, sweet rice, waxy rice, botan rice, biroin chal, mochi rice, and pearl rice.
Also, take a look at black rice. It's not glutinous, but it's claimed to have exceptional health qualities.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Matthew, the rice I use is the kind Tex mentioned-sweet rice also known as glutinous rice. I prepare it a little differently than most people on the board. I put 1 cup of sweet rice with 5 cups of water in my crockpot. It cooks overnight and is ready in the morning. It has a thick porridge consistency. I store the rest in the fridge and use it during the week. I tend to use it as my breakfast. I put bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and cinnamon on it and warm it in the microwave. I also use it if I've eaten something that didn't agree with me. It seems to help settle my system and get me back on track. I also use it with fish and other meat and then use salt on it. Hope that helps. JoAnn

the suggestion of gooey rice was made to me by both my naturopath and acupuncturist, the focus was on the liquid once the rice was cooked, as i dont strain or rince the rice, even with the rice being overcooked there is still the required elements in the liquid.

the following definition of glutinous rice came from the net (i googled what is glutinous rice) Glutinous rice is a rice cultivar which has been bred to be particularly sticky and dense. It is cultivated in Thailand, Laos, and China, and it is used in the cuisine of many Asian nations. Although the name implies that the rice contains gluten, it is actually gluten free, with “glutinous” being used in the sense of “sticky” in this instance.
for me making the savoury rice with at least 50% stock as the liquid it is cooked in means that when the rice is cooked there is a 'gooey' liquid with it, meaning the liquid is not as refined as water but it is not totally thickend like cream, it is somewhere inbetween.
Another reason why we thought having the gooey rice would be good, as one of the first type of processed solid that you feed babies is rice powder or rice porridge
the only oil i use for cooking is rice bran oil, Rice bran contains gamma oryzanol, which reduces inflammation
Joanne, i do the same, Sundays I make up a batch of the savory rice for the week, i have it with precooked lamb for my lunch, and an easy dinner the nights i am tired is warming the rice, with stock, and then add 1 or 2 eggs to it, one saucepan and in 10 mins i have dinner
There are lots of articles about rice being an issue for gut problems and like Karen there are people that can not tolerate it.
For me working and managing MC, the rice is a cheap and easy basis for meals with reasonable nutritional benefits
the rice that i buy here in Oz is called 'clever rice' Doongara rice is a uniquely Australian developed and grown grain of rice, first commercially harvested in 1989.
SunRice Doongara CleverRice White Long Grain Rice has two main benefits:
Lower Glycemic Index - SunRice Doongara Clever Rice has a lower glycaemic index (GI) than regular rice. This means it is digested more slowly by the body, helping you to stay fuller for longer and providing a sustained energy release for endurance.
Hard to Overcook - SunRice Doongara CleverRice is hard to overcook, as it is a more forgiving grain, allowing you to overcook the rice for up to 5 minutes beyond the ideal cook time of 12 minutes, resulting in fluffy rice every time.
SunRice Doongara CleverRice is also endorsed by the National Heart Foundation Tick of Approval
SunRice Doongara Clever rice is an all-purpose Australian white, long grain rice that is high in complex carbohydrates (starch), cholesterol free, gluten free, low in salt, fat and sugar.

that's a very good advice in this whole internet jungle of nutrition advice.

Arlene, glutinous rice is another name for sweet rice or vice versa. I like the thick porridge consistency I can get with it by adding 1 cup of rice and 5 cups water. I buy mine in large quantities at a local Chinese market. It is different from the regular rice you buy at the grocery store. I'm sure there are some grocery stores that carry sweet rice, but I like to buy it in larger quantities. If you're interested in trying it and can't find it at your local grocery store, try an Asian market.

It can also be called sticky rice, or sushi rice, as the grains of rice do not separate but cling together. This makes it easier to eat with chopsticks, or to form into rice balls, and it is the rice used for sushi. Sushi actually refers to the rice, not the raw fish, which is called sashimi.
I can sometimes find it in my grocery store, or I ask for sushi rice in an Asian market.
