Possible Relief
I have probably found out what is keeping me so sick. The coffee creamer I've been using has sodium caseinate in it. Don't even ask me how I managed to look past that when reading labels initially. I thought it was a non-dairy creamer. I will really miss my coffee creamer...but, I do have an alternative. I can get a coconut milk based creamer for the 1 to 2 cups of coffee I drink a day (I tried almond milk and that just doesn't do it for me). It will be interesting to see if the D clears up now. I'm really hoping so!

I hope that's it, Arlene.
I used to drink my coffee "fully loaded"--lots of cream and sugar. What was the point of coffee if I couldn't have it that way? But a couple of years ago I was trying to figure out what was causing my D, so I gave up dairy. I found that I didn't like coffee black and sweet, so I started drinking it completely plain. Even when I went back on dairy, I found I preferred my coffee black. Who would have guessed?! And it's a good thing, because now I know that dairy is indeed one of my intolerances.
MC makes us change, doesn't it? Enjoy that coconut creamer.

Arlene,
An avid coffee drinker myself, although never in excess, I had to give it up when I got my MRT results which showed that I was highly reactive to both coffee and caffeine
. After I dropped it, along with my other reactive foods, I had my first norman in 11 years!!! Hopefully eliminating the creamer will do it for you, but if not, you may want to try going without coffee for a few days.
Lots of luck with finding your way out of your flare
.
Love,
Kari

Arlene,
Yep, "non-dairy" creamers are a land mine that catches a lot of people. We have USDA to thank for label regulations that allow dairy ingredients in "non-dairy" products, non-meat ingredients in meat, and all sorts of other adulterations in products with pure-sounding names.
Products that we use every day seem to be the last place we look, for contamination. I hope that your good detective work brings you remission.

Oh, Arlene, I went for an additional seven years with untreated MC because of "non-dairy" creamer. I thought I had eliminated all dairy but continued to react so decided it was not causing me problems ( when in fact it was .. the casein) and it was 7 more years before I finally read that coffeemate had dairy in it. So much needless suffering. I am glad you found out relatively soon. I really hope that you improve now.

Arlene,
I'm curious as to what coconut milk based creamer you are trying. I got the So Delicious one and it was, well, so delicious lol, but had big problems within an hour. I've switched to plain coconut milk and I've handled it better but it doesn't taste as good. I'm starting to think it might be the carrageenan or the guar gum. Please let us know which one you try and how you do. Good luck.
I'm really considering switching to tea because I just can't do black coffee.

Kelly, yes, it's the So Delicious brand. I usually only drink 1 to 2 cups/day. So far so good. Maybe different flavors would help you to react differently? I'm using the hazelnut one.
Today is the 1st day without raging D. I'm SO grateful to have found that casein on the label of what I was drinking. Maybe now I have a chance at things settling down. At least they're looking promising!
