Nuts and Corn?

Post by Coach Polly »

I never hear anyone talking about eating nuts as a snack or corn. Before my diagnosis, when I was just GF, I ate alot of both. Is there something I should know?

Many of us find them to be rather irritating, until after our intestines heal for a while. Presumably, the fiber is the culprit, but nut butters work for some people, when whole nuts do not.

I've heard that whole corn apparently "goes through " even "normal" people ( ie those with out MC) so it is probably not easy to digest. Some of us are intolerant of all corn ( it does have it's own protein similar to gluten.) And incidentally it's a real challenge to be intolerant of corn, I found, like soy, because of how insidious it is... High fructose corn syrup and corn starch are in so many prepared foods.

Corn and nuts are very hard to digest. Don't try it unless you are willing to get sick.

I for one cannot do corn or nuts since they just do not digest and totally disrupt my system. Once in a blue moom I have (1) macadamia nut and hope.

Coach Polly,

I eat both nuts and corn regularly. Had corn kernals with my eggs this morning for brekky, and brazil nuts (for selenium) with my fruit snack during the day. Will probably snack on some peanuts tonight.

However, my MC is well controlled. So long as I stay well clear of my intolerances I can eat what I like. I would not have gone near either while I was recovering. Eating low fibre tended to help me make progress so something as high fibre as either of those did not appeal.
