Even 4 ounces of milk on cereal would cause me to be sick for hours. And milk is the worst for me. I used to be able to eat a piece or two of pizza without much trouble, but that was really the extent of it.
Connie, I've been on other forms of steroids when I was a kid and prefer not to take them. I had one heck of a time getting off of them. Every time the doctors would get the dosage down to a certain level and get ready to discharge me from the hospital, the cascade of symptoms would start again. And history would repeat itself, the dose would get raised again and there I would sit in the hospital. If I could get some relief with a different medication, I'd prefer that.
I do think that I'll be changing doctors, too. Not that I think the other doctor I have in mind to see will be any more open minded, but it just rubbed me the wrong way to have to push so hard today. After years and years of this with my son's doctors, I think the fight is just gone out of me.

Arlene,
With the cost of medical care we shouldn't have to worry that we are going into battle when we see a doctor. We are paying them, it is not like they are doing us a big favor to grace us with their time. The basic problem seems to be that most doctors have very little understanding of MC.
I drive 121 miles to a larger city to see my current GI doctor. I am hopeful that it will be just an annual visit as I have to take a day off work to go. The medical community where I live has very few GI docs and they just doesn't see enough MC. The doctors here tried to convince me that my symptoms were in my head and they nearly succeeded.
Hang in there. You're not alone.
Connie
