Asacol HD AND Entocort?
Has anyone ever taken Entocort along with their Asacol HD 800 mg? My doctor said it was okay but, I'm the type of person who doesn't like taking a lot of meds. I take 6 Asacol HD 800 mg tabs a day. 2 with breakfast, 2 with lunch and 2 before bed. Could I add some Entocort with it? I do have a full bottle in my cabinet...
I'm not aware of any listed pharmacological interaction between them, so they should be safe to take together. The main problem with taking two different drugs at the same time, is that it compounds the odds of an adverse reaction, and if one occurs, you won't be able to tell which one is causing the problem. The compounding effect is due to the fact that if an adverse reaction to one occurs, then the other drug will usually not be able to overcome the negative effect, so that by the laws of statistics and probability, the likelihood of a failed treatment is more than doubled, when two drugs are taken simultaneously. GI docs don't seem to understand mathematics very well, because they apparently mistakenly assume that taking two drugs simultaneously will double the chances of success.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
