Colonoscopy today

Post by Jan »

I finally gave in and had my 5+ year colonoscopy. It's been 5 1/2 years since the one was done that diagnosed me with colitis. What an adventure/journey that has been.

I have to admit I had less problems with the Miralax prep than I did with the GoLitely. Although I used some zinc oxide last night I don't feel like I have baboon butt today.

He did take biopsies again this time and I won't know the results for another week. I truly feel like I am in remission or managing my life by doing diet (paleo). It will be interesting to see what the pathology report says.

Glad the prep wasn't as bad as last time.
I know I'll have to have one soon as I start on Dr.'s here. Not looking forward to it. It has been 7 years for me.

Hope the results are good for you.

Terrific news, Jan! Does that mean you're not eating grains?

It will be interesting to see what the pathology report says.

Hi Jan,

Yep, this second-time-around data should be interesting. Please don't be too disappointed if your histology is not completely back to normal, though, because as you probably already know, except for kids, even celiacs usually require about 3 to 5 years, (on the average), or more, for the damage to their small intestine to heal, and I would be surprised if the damage to the colon caused by MC, requires any less healing time.

It's great to "hear" that you're doing so well. Not that it matters, but was your original diagnosis for LC, CC, or just plain MC?

Tex,

The original diagnosis was MC. I had a lot of problems figuring out what to eat, because I love raw veggies. Still have to limit how much of those I eat (and still not spinach in any form) otherwise I'm doing great.

My biggest thrill was that there were no polyps. Since I have a slight family history of colon cancer (an aunt on my Mom's side) this is one of the things that keeps me putting up with the procedure. That and it's not too often.

I'll let everyone know when I find out what the slides showed.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

Hi Jan, that's great that the prep went better, that was the one surprising thing for me was the prep was far worse than the procedure.

Like you I have found the best diet is essentially a paleo diet, it seems to settle the best. It must be great to have fond remission, I am glad that you have shared your progress as it does prove that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I look forward to hearing about your results

Take care
