Nutritional Software Recommendations

I think it would be a good idea for me to start tracking the nutrition I'm getting from my diet since it is so limited.

Can anyone recommend a nutritional software program? I'm most interested in an extensive list of nutrients and the ability to summarize what percentage of my daily requirement I've fulfilled each day.

I looked on www.webdietitians.org and found this paper http://www.webdietitians.org/ada/files/analysis.pdf telling what to look for in the software, but no recommendations. I can understand them not wanting to recommend software.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I've used a phone app & website called

It's free, but I feel that it's geared for people who are trying to lose weight. I was using it to keep tract of what I am eating and the amount of protein, fiber, carbs, sodium, etc. I've also been taking suppliments that I just list each day I also mark down how much water I'm drinking. It has a huge food list to choose from, but if you cook a lot of your own recipes it's difficult and you'd have to create your own data. I'm sure you'd figure it out. Once you did the same items it's easy to repeat that recipe.
At least you have an eating plan - still trying to figure that out for myself..... I guess my plan is letting the Entocort diffuse the inflammation - which seems to be working, get the celiac under control, test for intolerance and sensitivities, and I'm leaning toward a Paleo diet, but cooking veg & fruit based on test. I don't want to get off the Entocort without an eating plan!!!

Gloria thanks for posting this question. I have wondered if something like this might be available. I have wondered how my diet is stacking up to the nutritional guidelines.

I did up an excel spreadsheet with a few look up formulas. I had a table with the ingredients and their 'nutritional content' and then did up the eating plan and via the formulas it came up with daily total for specified nutritional items, and allowed me to assess daily intake.

i think the file was on personal file on work server so I will have to check if i copied the file over before leaving Aus Aero

If you're looking for one that you can use on your PC, and synchronize with your Android, BlackBerry, iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch, Windows Mobile Pocket PC (touch screen), Windows Mobile Smartphone (non-touch screen) and Palm OS mobile handhelds and PDAs, running MySportTraining and/or MyPersonalDiet, the best one available, (that I'm aware of), is VidaOne Diet & Fitness 3:

I have a version of MyPersonalDiet on my Acer s200 PDA, (running WinMobile 6.5 - the Hong Kong English version 3), and it has never failed to do anything I wanted from it. It's not free, but it's very comprehensive, and very easy to use. Actually, I never saw the need to buy the PC version, because the PDA version works so well. Of course, everything is easier to see on a large screen, but the beauty of the PDA/phone versions is that you always have it with you, so you can enter your data on the spot, wherever you might happen to be, anywhere in the world. With both versions, of course, you would have the best of both worlds, and it would be very easy to keep them synced.

I found the algorithms to be very accurate. I set it up to reflect my normal activity level, and whenever I entered everything I ate, and recorded any exercise, or anything else that burned calories, the projected rate of weight loss/gain was very, very close, even on a long-term basis, to what actually occurred at the scale. You can set it up to keep track of virtually any nutrients that you might be interested in, and it's very easy to view easily-understood charts and reports. It takes a while to set it up initially, of course, and to select the proper foods in the database, that fit your regular dietary habits, but once you get everything set up, daily use is fast and easy, (which, as far as I'm concerned, is absolutely essential, if you're actually going to use a program, and derive any benefits from it).

Oh, kewl! :smile: I have my own spreadsheet, but this looks much better. No it's not free, or even inexpensive, but it looks worth the price, especially as circumscribed as some of our diets are.
