Got a call from the Gastro this afternoon (actually his PA). There was not sign of colitis on any of the slides YAHOOOOOOO. Of course, they did tell me they would see me in 5 years. Maybe they'll forget before then.
I do know I still have to be careful with lots of raw fruits and veggies and spinach, otherwise, I'm doing great.
For all the newbies, I have to admit I must have had a mild case and I do not have a lot of the allergies that a lot of you have. I also remember that beginning of this when I didn't think I would ever have a life outside a bathroom. There is a light at the end of the tunnel and you also will find your way out of darkness.

Now there are 2 of us with negative followup biopsies. Of course, yours was after 5 years, and mine was after 10 years. (My 5 year biopsy was still positive for MC).
Way to go!!!

Jan that indeed is great news. I can imagine how good that must feel.
A question though I know you and Polly have achieved this milestone but are still challenged with the food restrictions to some degree. Are there any reasons why? I would think once the histology returns to normal that the sensitivities to lets say raw fruits and veggies would also go away.
congratulations that is fantastic news, whether a newbie or a mid termer or an oldie to the PP club.... the news of wellness is a wonderful wonderful thing to all.
it reminds all that it can happen....

I also wonder why they would still be a problem. We've always considered raw fruits and vegetables to be irritants, not intolerances. Presumably the healed colon shouldn't get irritated anymore.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

"no sign of colitis" is not the same as saying that the histology has returned to normal. The "no sign of colitis" phrase is almost surely the GI doc's interpretation of the pathology report. It might be interesting to see what the pathology report actually says.

Yes, we always thought that the primary reason we had problems with fruits/veggies was because they had lots of fiber which irritated the colon. Now, with MRT, it seems we are learning that many of us have sensitivities to certain fruits/veggies that are not due to fiber in the colon. The reactions occur in the blood, not necessarily the colon, and chemical mediators are released that then make us sick.
The major protein sensitivities that we have (gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, etc.) apparently are related more to the development of antibodies that reside primarily in the colon.
Sara, please do start another thread for this topic - it will be fun to toss it around.
Meanwhile, Jan, keep basking in your achievement!
