I finally found a fish oil that I want to try so please give me some opinions. It's called NutraSea+D (EPA & DHA omega-3 supplement with vitamin D) and manufactured by Ascenta. The ingredients listed are: pharmaceutical quality fish oil (sardines, anchovies, mackerel), natural apple flavor, natural tocopherols, green tea extract, vitamin D3. I remember some board discussions about tocopherols but I don't remember if they were good or bad! LOL! Let me know what y'all think.
I also clarified with him AGAIN how much he wants me to take and he said between 7-14 grams a day. I already discussed on this board how huge an amount that is but his opinion is that I should be taking 1 gram for every 10 lbs. of body weight which equals out to 12.5 grams a day. (He believes doctors under presribe Omega 3.) He said if I don't feel comfortable with that then at least take half. Okay, stay with me here--if I take 3 tsps a day that would be 4500 mg or 4.5 grams a day (1/4 of what he wants) plus this new oil has 1000 IUs of Vit D3 which would put me at 3000 IUs a day of Vit D (don't forget I am extremely Vit D deficient right now.) That dosage is not as much as he wants me to take but it's three times what the bottle calls for. So now what's your verdict???
Is my fish oil okay??

I agree with Tex. Get another doctor. You will have fish oil coming out both ends like a firehose, not to mention that you will probably smell like a sarding cannery. I know I have said this before, but I have to say it again. This guy is CRAZY!!!
BTW, the fish oil I take is from Genuine Health. You can get it from their website, or use the site to find it in a store closest to you.
Ingredients:
Pharmaceutical grade, molecularly distilled wild fish oils with no detectable levels of oxidation, or contaminants including heavy metals, dioxins, or PCB's

I can't advise about the dosing on the fish oil (though I can tell you that the Vitamin D believers wouldn't bat an eye at 3000 IU/day - many people take more to correct a deficiency).
Tocopherols are Vitamin E (or vitamin E-like). They're added to a lot of fish oil (and the fish flavor of our cat food), I think for stabilizing the fish oil. I don't think they're an absolutely problem, but they're often derived from wheat germ, and that could be an issue! I know, I'm starting to see wheat lurking everywhere... but you might call and ask the company.
I have a Vitamin D that comes in drops instead of a capsule, from Carlson, and it has fewer ingredients - it's GF/DF/SF, maybe something-elseF. One drop is 2000 IU.
I have been wondering whether I will need to take in less Omega 3s, now that I'm eating no grains or legumes or nuts, which are the primary sources of Omega 6s. But I am still kind of finding my way, and quite honestly the Omega issue hasn't been getting top billing in my worries ;)
