Catching up and having a problem

Post by randyh »

Hello all, been reading up, its been a while since I have been here, October to be exact, and all has been well since that time. Since going GF has helped a great deal.

This week has not been so good, every time I eat anything, within an hour or so I feel bad, slight belly ache, and then joint pain for a while. Not sure what I did to mess things up. Sometimes I get brave and eat out but I am always careful about my choices. Last week we did some traveling to visit some friends and ate out once, it seemed to happen about that time. I have had incidence with food that gives me a problem, but it usually goes away within a day or so, but this time it seems to be hanging on. Stress levels are up since my daughter had a medical problem and had to have surgery. Headed back to my basic diet but even that make me feel bad. No D, just feel like I have the flu so not sure what is going on.

Blessings to all, and hope everyone is doing well.

Hi Randy,

Sorry to hear of the problems. I gather from what you posted, that you have never stopped avoiding gluten, dairy, and soy, (if you are sensitive to it). If that's so, then there are a couple of possibilities:

1. You may have a new food sensitivity that your immune system is just now beginning to detect.

2. It's possible that something you ate triggered the problem, and the stress surrounding your daughter's surgery might be sufficient to keep the reaction going.

It's always difficult to guess where the problem might be. If you have flu symptoms, then it is very likely that you have active leaky gut syndrome, (LGS). LGS can be caused by various issues, such as a yeast overgrowth, sugar in the diet, alcohol in the diet, certain food peptides in the diet, (or a combination of those). If you have been avoiding sugar and alcohol, though, you can probably rule yeast overgrowth, (Candida albicans), also.

I wish I could be more helpful. Maybe someone else will have some ideas.

Randy,

I can relate to the flu like feeling. I feel a toxicity at times. I do think it is leaky gut. Are you taking entocort?

Tex-

I have been totally GF for many months now, it totally took away all my gut pain, most of the brain fog and no D to speak of.

I still eat sugar and an occasional adult beverage, but I have stopped that for now and maybe forever if I can't get this figured out. I am ok until I eat anything, within an hour to two hours I feel bad. I usually feel pretty good in the mornings, except this morning when I had some and upset tummy. That has gone away and I feel pretty good right now, but I haven't eaten yet today.

I think the leaky gut is the best guess. When I was traveling I ate some things that I thought were safe, but maybe not. My concern is that it seems to be hanging on, its been about a week now, so I will just get back to my diet and see what happens. I loved feeling so good and so this was a big hit to my mental status.

Thanks again for all the advice, I really appreciate and rely on what I learn here, it has been so very helpful and gotten me to a very good place again.

Good Day,

Randy

Something in your diet is definitely not agreeing with you. I hope you can figure out what it might be.

By the way, gluten-free beers are available. Anheuser-Busch even makes one, called Redbridge. I've never tried it, but some say it's pretty good. Of course, alcohol can aggravate the leaky gut syndrome, but a drink now and then shouldn't cause any serious problems.

Thanks Tex,

Much better today, was able to eat and not feel bad, had a little D, but not serious.

I have tried Redbridge, and it is pretty good, I have one now and then.

Well, its off to Las Vegas on business tomorrow, hoping that this is under control, just going to be difficult to manage my diet for the next 4 days, but I can do it.

Wish me luck.

That should be an interesting trip. I hope everything goes well.

Best of luck - hopefully, you'll be able to find something safe to eat.
