Dr Appt
I've been trying to find a different doctor as I have no confidence at all in the GI I've been seeing. So I looked up a bunch that are associated with one of the better hospitals around here and found one that said he specialized in inflammatory bowel disease. Unfortunately, he's a surgeon. But he was able to give me a referral to a GI who can treat me. He suggested that my slides be looked at by this new doctor because the pathology report I got hasn't got enough information as to which type of MC it is and that there are differences in the approach to treatment depending on what kind you have. He also suggested a detailed food journal. I wasn't sure if I should faint or kiss him. He definitely believes that this illness is influenced by the foods we eat and that in keeping the journal (something many of you do religiously--I admit I've been lax here) that I can find trends in what causes this to flair. He suggested testing foods. Honestly, I could not believe what I was hearing! My only disappointment was that he's a surgeon and obviously, likes to cut, so he won't be my doctor. He'd like me to call him and let him know how I think the appointment went with this doc he referred me to. Talk about a complete opposite of the doctor I had been seeing! So, tomorrow I call for an appointment with this new guy. It's really too bad this guy can't be my doctor, I really liked him!
I also looked into accupuncture, my insurance won't cover it. I was very disappointed to say the least.

Will wonders never cease?
I'm a little puzzled by this statement, though:
I can't visualize any difference in treatment, except for someone who has mastocytic enterocolitis. Surely he's not up to speed on that. Or is he?there are differences in the approach to treatment depending on what kind you have.
Congratulations on a great find.
Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

It sounds good in theory, but seems to come with more issues than Histame. So far, so good, the Histame is working with no side effects, but thank you!Pat wrote:Arlene,
You may do well with a medication called Gastrocrom. I tried it but it didn't work. I don't seem to have the mast cell issues. It's pretty expensive but maybe your insurance would help? Good luck with the new doc.

Hi, Gloria!
I just ordered from iherb.com (I am sure I got that rec. here, and seem to remember it was from Arlene - but maybe she'll have another).
http://www.iherb.com/Search?kw=histame
The cost was $16.95 for 30 capsules, or $8.76 for 7 capsules. I should have it in time for a lunch date with a friend next week! I'm still going to research careful, and eat cautiously, but I'll be interested to see over time whether it helps, and which foods affect me differently with and without taking it.
Hope your trip was a delight,
Sara

Sara,
Thank you for the quick response. I'm still visiting my daughter for a few more days. I'll give a report when I return.
Maybe I should just stock up on it from iherb.com, but I've only taken one pill so far. I'm not certain that it will work consistently for me. I've ordered so many products, thinking they are OK, and now they are relegated to the "Do Not Use" pile.

I had to laugh when I read this -- I'm the one who recommended iherb.com. I asked Arlene what her source is because iherb.com is selling it for half-price temporarily. I'm concerned that the regular pricing will return and I wanted to have another source. Arlene said she purchased hers at half-price, too.Sara wrote:I just ordered from iherb.com (I am sure I got that rec. here, and seem to remember it was from Arlene - but maybe she'll have another).

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
I had the same trepidation, Gloria. I ordered 30 capsules, and am hoping to figure out whether it works for me before the sale ends, so I can stock up. I am wrapping my mind around the whole topic of histamines and mast cells, which is a new idea to me in relation to MC (about the pollen and the sneezing, not new at all!). I am optimistic that it's worth trying... I had one small hive recently, like a little "hello there" to pay attention to this.
And thanks for the iherb.com recommendation! I knew it came from someone smart and wonderful ;)
Enjoy the rest of your visit,
Sara

I've been ordering mine right from the www.Histame.com site. I got 67 capsules for 42.95. It is a buy one-get one, plus a bonus of 7 capsules. Right now it looks like they are temporarily out of stock.
I should get a discount now for all the business coming their way! LOL!
Again, I can't tell you how much this has helped me. Thank you again, Mary Beth!
