Update on new GI doctor

Post by nancyl »

I finally had my first appointment with Dr. Nagri, who was recommended by Joe, and I do like him. He is a great listener and actually spent an hour with me. Answered my list of questions and outlined a plan. He suggested that I take Entocort and I had my first dose this morning. We'll try this for 6 weeks then see what happens.

I sent my samples in to Enterolab and ended up upgrading after Kelly's post about the new panels and pricing. I am now being tested for dairy, gluten, soy, and eggs instead of just gluten and dairy. I should hear back in another two weeks. So I am hoping I can incorporate a new diet with these results and gets things under control before going off of Entocort.

I need to gain some weight, I am down to 102 lbs., thank goodness I am only 5 ' tall. I think I am going to try making some almond milk and with that make some puddings, etc. Justin's nut butter packs I think are loaded with calories. Any other suggestions?

Nancy that's great you got to see dr Nagri, he is quite good, the only thing that he needs to make him perfect is for him to recommend diet first... Although I did first hear about the issue with gluten and mc from him. Overall he should be able to support you quite well. His staff is excellent as well, especially Cindy

Take care Nancy

Hi Nancy,

Glad you found a GI doc you're comfortable with and who accepts the diet connection - judging from my own experience and many others here, those docs are few and far between.

After starting the gluten free diet (last summer) and then narrowing my diet more and more from there, I've lost 25 lbs. (I'm 5'8" and now 120 lbs.). It is very difficult for me to get enough calories, as I've eliminated just about all "processed" foods, as well as minimizing fruits. I used to drink coconut water, so if you're OK with coconut, that might be an option for you. Coconut water also has electrolytes, so it's a great drink all around. If you tolerate bananas, that's another good source of calories. They used to be a staple for me until I discovered that I'm highly sensitive to them. One thing I do now, is make sure that I use lots of extra virgin olive oil on my food, as I seem to tolerate it well. Also, since I seem fine with potatoes, I eat Kettle brand potato chips - one of my very few processed foods.

Lots of luck to you as you continue on the road back to health. Getting the Enterolab results will be very helpful, as it will eliminate some of the guess work.

Love,
Kari

Joe, he did ask if I was staying away from gluten and I told only dairy for right now till I get my test results back. I am so thankful that you referred me to him. And you are right Gabes, now I at least have someone to call when needed who will pay attention to what I am going through. The last 9 months have been awful, I felt like I was on my own except for all of you.

Kari, it is so hard to find foods high in calories. It's funny when your not trying to lose weight it seems like you can gain 4 lbs. in a day, but when you're tying to gain the scale just doesn't move. I had quite a good dinner last night and ate a lot today and all I gained was 1/2 of a pound. I also don't eat processed foods. This week my goal is to make a strawberry smoothie with just that and coconut water. Although, I do want to try making almond milk. That should be pretty high in calories. I guess my only concern right now is feeling good and hopefully the weight will come along. I am thinking that I may also have a problem with bananas and that's why I am going to do the smoothie with just strawberries for now.

HI Nancy,

So happy that you found a doctor that you like and thanks to Joe to for recommending him. Great move on the Entrolab tests and they should give you good groundwork to build on.

Love, Maggie

Nancy,

Sorry I missed your post over the weekend. It sounds like Dr. Nagri is a winner! WTG, Joe for the great recommendation.

How have you been feeling? Have you noticed a difference with the Entocort?

I have noticed bananas don't seem to be agreeing with me lately too so I have eliminated them. I've made a few things with quinoa lately and have really enjoyed it and it seems to be settling okay. I don't know if the calorie count is very high but since it is a complete protein it may give you some nutrition as well as another possible option.

Hopefully the Enterolab results will give some answers to some questions you haven't been able to ascertain with diet changes alone. We just mailed my daughter's test off today so I'm playing the waiting game with you.
