as mentioned in our aussie adventures post, my friends have made their house using train carriages as the basis
Joe had the honour of sleeping in the bunks, they are original no modifications have been done, and as you lay on your bunk you can see the starlight sky out of the window,

What a transformation. I am so taken with people who "recycle" housing. In Europe there is a big surge using shipping containers to make new housing since they are so plentiful. Realize it is not cheap but it sure helps save the planet. I want to come to Australia.

Interesting. Looks like a lot of work, but they made quite a transformation.
Thanks for sharing.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
WOW! A transformation indeed - what fun (and what imagination).
Maggie, I've seen pictures of those shipping-container makeovers - I think I saw one in Texas in a magazine, very bare-bones and yet beautiful. Very appealing, from the maintenance point of view as well as the recycling and repurposing.

it has taken them a few years, they have been very resourceful using and re using every piece.
When they cut a wider doorway for the kitchen to the centre open area, the marine grade 12 ply sheeting that was on that section has been used as shelves. they kept the foam from some of the bunks they pulled out and this foam is now inside a giant bean bag and is their lounge per say.
When i worked for Nautilus Minerals and we were doing the offshore exploration, i set up three 20ft containers, one was fitted out as an office with lan cabling and server hub, one as a ops room and one as a lab for the Marine Biologists. each cruise we did we just had to put the containers on the vessel we had hired and with minimal set ups we were ready to go.
the company that did the fit out said they frequently get requests to do 'granny flat' type set ups, as you dont need permission from council to put a shipping container in your yard.

The train carriage house is a MC friendly house! and the invitation to stay there is extended to any of the PP family that make it to Oz.
They scrubbed their BBQ (grill) so there was no risk of contamination when cooking the steak for dinner.
this is where i spent xmas in 2009 when i first diagnosed, these people have seen the less than ideal side of MC and understand totally why we tend to be a bit particular about food prep and cooking.
