Well folks so far I have had the privilege of meeting Gabes, Mary Beth and this Friday afternoon I will have a chance to say hi to NancyL and her husband.
Next week I will be on a trip to Baltimore and then the Pentagon and while in Baltimore I will have an opportunity to say hello to Polly and her husband. Supposedly I am going to learn how to 'tackle a crab...' I never knew crabs played football.. Oh well it is Maryland and you know how those folks are... And I thought the Aussies were strange.
During the last week in the month I will be back in Brisbane house hunting, and if things work out have another chance to say hello to Gabes, and if I can make the changes to my flights be able to stop over in HK to say hello to Ant... You know this is becoming a habit...
At that rate, we might as well appoint you as our ambassador-at-large.
Incidentally, how's the healing on your jaw and hip coming along?

That's funny Tex a PP ambassador... Isn't that a political appointee...
The hip healed pretty quick, but does twinge every now and then. The jaw is doing pretty good, yet I do miss my back teeth! The other issue that for a while I need to chew on my left side only. This for some reason has stressed my jaw making it hard to open wide. I guess I used to chew on the other side more often.
If none of your upcoming flights send you through JFK, I may have to arrange a New England visit before you grand departure ;)
I'm glad to hear your healing. I have found even having a slightly off-balance dental filling can throw off chewing significantly, so can only imagine the learning curve of chewing predominantly on the 'other' side.
My college roommate from Baltimore taught me to appreciate crabs. You are in for a treat!

Yep. In this case, I suppose it would be a PPP ambassador - a political potty people ambassador.
I would assume that unilateral mastication is almost guaranteed to cause jaw soreness/stiffness if you're not used to doing that. It's good to hear that the healing is going smoothly, though.

Joe - I'll offer my endorsement for your appointment :). That's a position too good to turn down, unless of course Nurse Nestle says no - she might not enjoy having you gone so much .
I'll be in Norway while you're traveling - how about swinging by???
Love,
Kari

Well I am gobsmacked at all of the response to this.... I really appreciate the invite to the uk and to Jordan, that would be a lot of fun. One of my plans in the hopefully not too distant future is to take a trip tracing my ancestors in Ireland, that would certainly bring me to the uk.
I think Nestle would be ok being my co-ambassador, she takes a better picture than I do anyway.
Zizzle I did not know you were down that way, how about next Tuesday afternoon?
Hi Joe,
I have a staff meeting until 11 am, and I can get away for a couple of hours until 4:30. I work downtown near the White House and Farragut West metro station (same blue line as the Pentagon, and only 3 stops away). Sadly, I can't think of many GF/DF-friendly nearby restaurants off the top of my head, but I'll find some. After all, DC was recently voted the most celiac-friendly city!
Zizzle Tuesday late afternoon or evening is fine in the DC area. I will have a car with gps so you name the place. For me in a pinch anyplace with steamed seafood is usually a pretty safe bet.
I can only do afternoon (or late night after kids go to bed!) because I have to pick up the kids between 5 and 6, feed them, and get to a very important PTA meeting where I'm arguing about the lack of differentiation in the spanish language program at my son's school. Are you staying in Crystal City? Are your meetings in the Pentagon? When will you free up? Would 3:30 or 4:00 be too early? We can do tea somewhere...
McCorming and Schmicks is a good bet for GF dining around here. There's one in Crystal City, also Legal Seafoods. Other Crystal City options for you include Jaleo (Spanish tapas) and Lebanese Taverna (very gluten friendly). If you're near a metro, don't plan on driving your car too much around town. It can be very confusing for newcomers, even those with GPS. But if you stay in Arlington it's easier.
Oh, and if you give me your email via PM, I can email you the DC Celiac's restaurant database.
