Another Duh! Type Research Project :monkey:

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Here's another example of wasted time and money - a research report titled Dairy Probiotics May Be Ineffective in Constipated Children
A dairy probiotic containing Bifidobacterium lactis DN-173 010 may be ineffective in constipated children, according to the results of a randomized, double-blind, controlled trial reported online May 23 that will also appear in the June print issue of Pediatrics.
Well Duh! I thought that everyone was well aware, (everyone other than these researchers, obviously), that dairy products are the number one cause of constipation in kids. With that in mind, are we supposed to be surprised that giving constipated kids a treatment based on a dairy product provided no benefit?

Who comes up with these bright ideas for research projects, anyway?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Tex,

Prize-winning Ellen Goodman (refuses to call herself a pundit) once wrote about a study that showed that women in labor were less anxious if someone they loved and trusted was along for the ride - husband, sure, but also sister, mother, aunt, best friend. (Her comment was something like "could they have saved the research grant and just asked any woman they ever ran into???)

Yup, science! It is, weirdly, one of our best hopes. When someone is actually thinking. The study you cite does appear to have been designed in a gluten-induced brain fog. OR - there is a drug company out to make big bucks with something that under-performs compared to some *non-dairy* probiotic. So they paid to discredit the whole category. Oops, just got cynical. It can't be gluten, but it probably means I should eat my late dinner...

Another "great" research project. They just seem to get dumber and the final result is dumbest.

Love, Maggie
