I think our SIL has been here since she was high-school age, and is now - early 40s - so 25 years? I'm sure you're right her English was fluent before she arrived.
What wonderful experiences you've had of the world! I know what you mean about getting confused - whatever language I've recently learned a little of tends to get mixed up with bits of high school French, or something else I've dabbled in. My husband swears I once said "Grank you" in Mexico, but I'm pretty sure he's just teasing...
Clearly you have passed on a love of the wider world to the next generation.
