Is It Gluten Free? I-Phone App

Post by MBombardier »

Okay...I must confess that I do not have a smartphone. There is a little rebel in all of us. But here it is, for what it's worth.

My husband just got me an Android phone - I wouldn't have thought to look for this (I have exactly one app).

There are several apps for Android (probably iPhone, too) that will scan the UPC code and tell you if it's gluten free! (They call 'em smartphone 'cuz they're better at reading fine print than we are?)

If I can find one that lets me choose what ingredients to scan for (adding eggs & dairy), I'd even pay for it.

Thanks for this, Marliss,

Sara - I just came across this app

http://cookitallergyfree.com/iphone_ipad_app/

I have an I-pad and I-phone. I think I'm going to download and try it.

Denise

Denise,

Can't wait to hear what you think of it. I'm looking through the Android options...

Maybe I'll tap the potential of my smartphone after all!

Sara - I really like this app! I haven't used it to make a grocery list, but apparently you can. I used it to make banana nut muffins. You click on e ingredients that you have an allergy to and it gives you 5 or 6 things to choose from to replace that ingredient. The muffins turned out delicious! It only has about 200 recipes right now, but saidnthat more are being added every day. You can also add your own recipes to your recipe box. I haven't tried that yet, so I'm not sure if it will give substitutions for ingredients in your recipes. I'm going to play around with it some more and will give you updates.

Hugs,
Denise

Thanks, Denise!

And for your other-smart-phone types, I'll let you know what I find in the Android world...
