I didn't realize that Gabes and Joe will be meeting. I figured Oz is so large, it was going to be difficult. Gabes, pretty soon you will have met someone from each country represented on the board.

Enjoy your trip, Joe and especially your meeting with Gabes.

Gloria it worked out pretty well, I will be giving a lecture in Brisbane next week and Gabes has been quite kind in helping out with some of the local details for this visit.

I still think Gabes needs to setup a MC friendly travel agency

Responding to a couple of the earlier posts in this thread, I have added hard boiled eggs and almond butter to go with the rice cakes to my foods that I will be carrying to add some protein. Thanks for the suggestions from Matt, Gloria, Gabes, Maggie and Linda.

Joe,

You could also get some gluten free jerky - got some a while back at Whole Foods - can't recall the name but I do remember it was GF.

Have a great trip!

Hi Joe!

I agree with Matthew and others about the protein, and I thought of the perfect one for you! A small can of salmon in a foil pack or with a pop-top lid. (I guess can openers would not be allowed). I recall you saying how much you liked salmon.

Also, I think it was Peg here who used to get a note from her doc that allowed her to get a seat next to the bathroom on the plane as well as immediate access if needed (like in the case where you are sitting on the runway for an hour waiting your turn and they won't let anyone out of their seats).

It's so special that you and Gabes will be meeting. Wish I could join you two!

Have a wonderful and safe trip! BTW, what is the title of your talk? It's good that you get that out of the way immediately and then can fully enjoy yourself.

Love,

Polly

Hi again Joe,

Here's another tip, in case you get to a health food store before your trip: Mrs. Crimble's rice cakes. I think they're from the U.K. They have several flavors - I have the honey flavor. They are much thinner than regular rice cakes, almost like crackers. And delicious!

Well less than 1 day to go and I think I'm ready. Reservations double checked, house cleaned (sort of), boarding passes ready and bags basically packed.

Per earlier suggestions I have upgraded the foods that I will be carrying, added are almond butter, salmon (foil pouch) and hard boiled eggs (recently added to my diet).

Bananas (GF/DF/SF/YF)
Hard boiled eggs
Salmon (foil pouch)
Rice Cakes with almond butter (GF/DF/SF/YF)
Cereal - Rice with oats & honey Whole Foods Inc (GF/DF/SF/YF)
Vanilla cookies (GF/DF/SF/YF)

All in all I cannot complain about the selection, this sounds like a lot, but it does fit well into a standard 'day pack' backpack.

Thanks again to all on this site, your advice and help has been incredible. Hopefully in a few days, I will posting some pictures of the incredible Australian scenery.

Thanks again

Bon voyage, Joe. Have a great trip. You sound very prepared.

What brand of cookies are OK for you? I was curious since you first posted about them.

Polly I could not find Mrs Crimble's brand rice cakes, but did find something similar. I also forgot to mention from your earlier question regarding the lecture, I will be giving a talk on a paper I wrote:

"Packaging and Qualification of Single-Photon-Counting Avalanche Photodiode Focal-Plane Arrays"

Not exactly exciting material unless your field of interest is photonics.

Rosie & Gloria my trip is dramatically easier than Gabes was in France, so I will have plenty of time to do some site-seeing and I will keep a travel diary in this post during the upcoming week. I will actually arrive in Brisbane Monday evening eastern time US and will be returning the following Wednesday.

Joan the vanilla animal cookies I found at a local health-food store are:

Mini Outback Animals Multipack Vanilla

Thanks again everyone for your support and suggestions.
Gabes thanks for all of the local info and help.

I also wondered what Joe was talking on. Photonics!, I thought what is that? I looked it up in the dictionary so everyone reading it would know
photon |ˈfōtän|
noun Physics
a particle representing a quantum of light or other electromagnetic radiation. A photon carries energy proportional to the radiation frequency but has zero rest mass.
ORIGIN early 20th cent.: from Greek phōs, phōt- ‘light,’ on the pattern of electron.

I would assume it is related to your job.

Anyway, have a wonderful trip.

Joe,

Happy trails, podner, and dazzle those dudes, (or blokes, as the case might be ), with your presentation.
