Regarding insoluble fiber, I've never gone near the stuff on purpose, despite recommendations from my doctors. I've always eaten too much fruit and salad to need it. It's upsetting to me that the government's dietary guidelines or so freakin' off base. And I know it will take years, if not decades, for them to change any of them.
I know I'm getting too much fiber now, in the form of cooked greens and broccoli, occasional salads, fruit, nuts, and brown rice. My husband is on a high-fiber kick and it's killing me! It's hard to stop because I know these foods are healthy and good for you. My husband just doesn't understand how white "high glycemic" rice can be better for me. So I may never reach full remission, but hopefully my body is somehow benefiting from the nutrients in my "healthy" diet. These high-fiber foods certainly come out fully digested nowadays, so I'm assuming they have a normal trip down the GI tract until they reach the unfriendly colon.
