Joe,

Yep, Tex got it right here … that is a German Shorthaired Pointer. Nice dogs – very high energy. Does the owner have ambitions of hunting with this dog? They can be great dogs for such a purpose. This puppy has lovely ticking and markings. Nurse Nestle will have fun with her.

My favorite related breed in this category is the German Wirehaired Pointer. They tend to be the real clowns of the family!!

Used to work with a fellow who owned one ... Her name was Bella.

He told this true story about Bella’s ‘retrieving prowess’:

They were duck hunting on a cold fall day in Minnesota. After sitting in their blind for quite some time, he finally downed a bird – and then 'sent' Bella to retrieve.

Well - Bella, being no fool, hesitated about going into the (cold) water to get that bird. So -- to encourage her -- he decided to put her into the duck boat and row her out to pick up the bird -- and he then picked the duck out of the water himself --- while Bella watched.

After that retrieve was completed, they returned to the blind to wait for another bird.

After shooting another bird, he again 'sent' Bella to retrieve. Bella obediently went back and climbed into the boat again so they could again row out -- so he could again, pick up that bird.

Why should Bella swim -- this was a great way to get the bird? After all – she was a POINTER, not a retriever. Dumb human!!

Bella, the hunting companion, was to become -- as most often happens -- a great family pet.

PS....
I was conflicted -- between that Scottish Deer Hound and the Smooth Fox Terrier.

That is so cool of you, Joe.

Our days with William are limited now. I was looking at his puppy pictures last night and thinking about the wonderful 11 years he has given us. I am just waiting for him to give me the sign that he is ready to move on. Will leave in hole in our hearts the size of Texas (no offense, Tex).

Have fun with your new pup!

Rich
