Well, if it works would be cheaper than the $29,000.00 (hospital bill) stress induced remission I got when hubby suddenly ended up in the hospital at the end of September...:)

YIKES, Grannyh! That's a lot of money, though I'm sure the upset and misery were bigger than any number can convey.

I think there could be a side effect that no one can predict. It seems to me that zonulin might be there for a reason. Stopping it from doing its "job" could have effects no one has considered, because zonulin was only isolated recently.

If my wild notion is even half-right, there could be a much worse side effect than we might expect from a pharmaceutical in general - not just a reaction (headache, rash fatigue... everything Zizzle listed in that hilarious ad parody and more). This is shutting off a function the body performs in the presence of a toxin or antigen or pathogen. In this case, an avoidable toxin/antigen.

I guess my notion is - won't the zonulin-zapper prevent some things from crossing through tight cell junctions that *should* get through either the gut lining or the blood-brain barrier?

Maybe 'celiac disease' should be renamed 'gluten poisoning' - maybe the underlying genetics are a different way of accomplishing a function in human biology, that only becomes a pathology when the right sorts of grains are bred and grown and widely distributed.

That said, Zizzle, your FIL is clearly onto something. This should be huge for investors.

I wish I had been paying attention in biology class. Looking back on it, I think I was probably low-level ADD, and (you guessed it) I blame gluten. I sure am interested now.

Sara--

That is an interesting point. Whenever we artificially interfere with the functions of the body, there are bound to be side effects. It will be interesting to see what happens. In my experience with meds, I have found if there is a side effect, I will get it.

Love,

Mags
