Re: Comprehensive List of Legumes
Yes…..
I suspected salt & pepper although I have forgone the pepper for 2 years! Now I can’t stand pepper. I struggle to understand this disease and how we can get adequate nutrition from such menial food options.
I still feel absolutely certain that Tex knows what he’s talking about and I am still trying to get these rigid guidelines for foods & seasonings that we can eat accurate in order to heal the inflammation I have. I know it is better even though I continue to find the uh ohs that are vague to a person who has not studied nutrition and looks at labels in order to make what appear to be correct decisions……. Then I find out …. Well here I have made a mistake and swallowed a snake!!!!!
If at first you don’t succeed….try try again!!!!
Thank You Tex!!!!!

Do you think or know if there is ANY GI or Nutritionist alive in the world today who believes a meat diet is all we need to sustain a healthy life until death do we part…..????
Meat …… OF COURSE I BELIEVE YOU!!!!
BUT….. the medical community…..???? I can’t imagine they would EVER agree with this fact!!!??? MEAT is the LAST food group ever mentioned in medical research that I have seen and read…..
Meat is listed as the worst thing we can consume in every thing aside your research and knowledge where I have ever read, seen and heard that meat is essential to living healthy!!!
This ole Georgia dawg or better said…..This ole Southern Belle has some LEARNING to do!!!!!!!!!!!
Goal: Learn All You Can and Can All You Learn…..
(I will seal it TIGHT when I know I have learned what is correct….. I want my grade to be A++++++)
Thank You As Always Tex

Re: Comprehensive List of Legumes
To show you how far off track mainstream diet "experts" have veered in recent decades, consider a medical trial conducted in 1988.
The results of the study were published in an article titled, "Reducing the serum cholesterol level with a diet high in animal fat".
In the study, 7 individuals with elevated cholesterol and multiple food allergies were fed a diet extremely high in beef fat, with no sucrose, milk, or grains. They were supplemented to maintain nutrition.
Here's a link to an abstract of that study if you want to read it yourself: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3336803/

- Their triglycerides dropped from 113 mg/dL to 74 mg/dL.
Their total cholesterol decreased from 263 mg/dL to 189 mg/dL.
Their HDL percentage rose from 21% to 32%.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Re: Comprehensive List of Legumes
That was certainly my experience. A couple of months after I started my restrictive diet my LDL went from 296 to 120, HDL went from 46 to 70, and my Triglycerides went from 117 to 73.
Same with my blood pressure. Before the diet (mostly meat) my BP averaged 141/90 (with medication). Now my pressure averages 116/78 and that's with no medication.
One silver lining to my MC ordeal.

Any suggestions on the pale yellow stools that just prove ti me that having my gallbladder removed in 2020 was a HUGE mistake!!!! I take cholestyramine …. I know it helps….but I suppose nothing can change this issue….. I feel certain it’s Bile Acid Malabsorption…..
So frustrating!!!!! Am I absorbing enough nutrients??? It certainly appears very doubtful!!!!! No Dr or GI even suspects an issue no matter what I say or tell them!!!! My routine bloodwork is good and they look no farther!!!!! Regardless I barely weigh the BMI “the medical community recommends”.
The routine bloodwork misses so much too!!!!
I struggle to trust bloodwork as the best thing a Dr can do, when bloodwork misses many issues!!!!!
My son age 45 had Hodgkin’s lymphoma and it NEVER showed in his blood work, even the months he had chemotherapy. So Thankful he is cancer free!!!
Bloodwork misses so much I think and it’s all a Dr goes on Until or Unless you get so sick they have to test & test, etc to try to see what is wrong with a patient…..

Re: Comprehensive List of Legumes
Hello Teresa,
Obviously I'm not Tex but have some experience with BAM. Had my gallbladder removed in 2018 and regretted as well. Not having a gallbladder causes a constant stream of bile coming from the liver into the small intestine, and it is not as concentrated as when the bile comes from the gallbladder.
The method I use (and many others with BAM) is to take a cholestyramine dose at bedtime on an empty stomach. This binds to the bile that is not being used during the night.
The other trick is to eat small frequent meals during the day. This will use up the bile in your intestine. I believe it is important to have some meat fat with your meals - but not too much at a time because there might not be enough bile to break down a large amount of fat. Many of the BAM sites on the internet recommend a low-fat diet, I personally try to eat as much fat as my digestive system can handle.
Basically, it's a balancing act. You want to avoid unused bile getting into your colon and you want to avoid undigested fat getting into your colon. Your colon is having none of that and will purge itself to be rid of the bile (or fat), and that's why you have to run to the bathroom.
If you have active MC then you are likely to have an inflamed terminal Ileum (the end section of your small intestine). The ileum is where unused bile is absorbed to be returned to the liver for reuse. An inflamed Ileum cannot perform that function very well (if at all). In my case, once I got my inflammation reduced my Ileum does a better job of up taking unused bile and I have been able to go down to just half a dose of cholestyramine before bed.
An inflamed Pancreas may cause fat digestion problems. The pancreas produces enzymes to break down fat as well (I believe its lipase). Maybe when the pancreas is inflamed (as it often can be with active MC) it is not producing enough lipase to further break down the fat. This is speculation on my part so take it with a grain of salt.
Good Luck Teresa and be patient - cholestyramine takes a couple of weeks to start working.

Re: Comprehensive List of Legumes
Thank you John R.
I feel pretty certain it was a post from you that I saw where you take a half packet of Cholestyramine. That’s what I’ve been doing about every other night and a full packet every the other nights. I have had BAM since I developed MC. MC diagnosis took much too long (2022) to get and I was clueless!!!! The ONLY GI group I had ever seen in my life (possibly post covid office issues???). I called in mid August 2022 and it was October 26, 2022 just for the initial appointment, stool sample kit & colonoscopy scheduled for December 17, 2022. A quick care trip Saturday evening before Thanksgiving 2022 was the PA on duty telling me, there was really nothing he could do. He told me “You need to call your GI first thing Monday morning because the squeaky wheel gets the grease”. I told him I had been calling since my appointment in October almost daily without any consideration to help me be seen sooner, not even gotten my stool (nasty liquid, no ‘stool’) samples results because the Dr hadn’t signed off on the results!!!! I had been furious but they weren’t accommodating one single bit, even told me they had no cancellation list!!!!!
I called that Monday any way…. The Same, NOTHING, aside basically rude!!! I hung up and immediately callec back… I got a different person and I didnt say who I was or anything, except, “I want to speak to the office manager”. I was transferred with no questions asked!!! She answered and gave me my stool sample results and she said she had a cancellation for a colonoscopy on Wednesday (the day before Thanksgiving)….. I GLADLY took it! I had already lost 35 pounds…. The holidays….. mystery Rx showed up a week before Christmas 2022….Budesonide, bottle instructions “Take 3 a Day”…. (too vague, all at once or morning, noon and night)….. plus i looked it up… a steroid (for what??) I called the office manager again. She said the Rx apparently got to me before the staff called. She explained the reason (asking a nurse how to take the 3 a day) ….. I asked why a steroid and she said the Dr suspects a type of colitis. I was hesitant to agree BUT I had to do something (24/7 diarrhea, YELLOW of all consistencies, and ZERO warning, and some movements pure mucous, yellow too). She set follow up for Jan 2, 2023…. Dx = MLC, one appointment I asked GI for something for BAM
(my daughter found an few articles about BAM & we felt certain BAM to be an issue. Gi, “oh sure I can prescribe you something for that, and he did…. I learned what Cholestyramine is) Budesonideweaned by May 8, 2023, weight loss continued but diarrhea was ok. I felt something was off still (knowing little of MLC, so I researched and THANK Goodness I found Wayne Persky!!!!!
I was stubborn….. I was a year reluctant to adhere to his knowledge…..obvious he KNEW what he was talking about….BUT to give up gluten!!!!! I started having terrible Gerd & requested an upper endoscopy Feb 2024….. small hiatal hernia (prescribed Omeprazole, I didnt know a PPI was a culprit). I emailed WP a random question a couple months later….I mentioned the Omeprazole (accidentally)… he told me this “if your GI prescribed you that and knows you have MC, he knows nothing about MC. Omeprazole and all PPIs can cause MC or cause symptoms to flare if a patient has MC”. (He told me what was safer for me to take, tagamet, Pepcid, zantac) I stopped the Omeprazole immediately!!!! I was to see my PCP soon. PCP appointment came (husband with me) I told him my issues and concerns…… he was so totally arrogant!!!!! About PPI (I told him the MC Foundation, not saying name ‘WP’ says not to take, I read what I wrote above to him). He snapped “I’ve never heard of that”. I had cracks in the corners of my mouth that would bleed….. nothing healed them…. I had Angular Chelulitis pulled upnon my phone and showec him my mouth, then phone and asked “do you think this is what I have?”/ he glanced at both (mouth & phone) “NO, I don’t think that’s what you have!” Last I asked about vitamins…. He is ANTI vitamin ….. he was soooo unprofessional….. he said he had a lot of patients with MC!!! (He doesn’t, no way did I believe him). No way would I see him again!!! I had a dental appointment for my check up the next week…… the hygienists said my corners of my mouth appeared to be a vitamin deficiency….but the dentist would know…… she cleaned, etc….waiting for the dentist to…..she brought her phone and said “I think this is what you have ….she had pulled up ‘Angular Chelitus’ (tears rolled out my eyes)…. My dentist prescribed an Rx and said it should help in less than a week. A week….my corners were healed and have remained healed!!! Fall 2024 - winter 2024/25 my reflux/GERD had turned to vomiting. GI guinea pig test (nothing helped, all testing appeared unremarkable). I KNEW THEN….I HAVE TO EAT LIKE ‘WP’ tells me!!!! I was ceasing to thrive (with bloodwork all in range)….. Drs could care less that I weigh 110 (55 pounds less than 2023)! They seem to think…… Oh she’s a hypochondriac….
My vomiting is all but ceased eating GF (got sensitivities done from Enterolab) eliminated those too. Eat little (as you suggest). Poor appetite anyway, almost a food phobia).
I believe I will continue to improve….. no diarrhea, but the weird stuff 3X + a day (several days a week) in the toilet…..BAM even though now it is not diarrhea, so weird (you explained it too)……. Thank you John R, you understand too….. I think you wrote what I have ALWAYS said too….. I eat to live/I don’t live to eat….
Any more BAM suggestions send my way…….
