Nancy,
Hi neighbor! It *is* a small world. We ate at Bishop's in Lawrence all the time when visiting my grandmother, (my grandparents met in the mills).
Good for you, skipping the PPI you don't like to take every day. DGL helped my mother, and a friend. I have L-Glutamine in my supplements drawer, but didn't know it had that usage. I hope your doctor is receptive to your approach - since it's working!
It's sure been hard to get enough Vitamin D from sun this week. I walked the dog (not far), and my keys were hot to the touch when we came back. The handles on all our faucets, too.

love the new tag line tex
and thanks for this info, GERD has been one of main issues over the past 6 months, i have upped my Vit D intake and in my apt with the new GI this week will request a blood test to monitor levels
Denise, i too had admissions to hospital as a child with what was diagnosed as 'growing pains' (as they couldnt find any other reason)
i would be admitted with sharp stabbing cramping pains in my abdomen, nausea some times vomitting. they would suspect appendix, when i spent two days on bed rest on a drip, not eating, the pain would abate.
nothing showed up in x-rays, blood tests, stool tests, ultrasounds of my ovaries, so the doctors told my mother it must be growing pains.

I sure did Denise.
there is more at play regarding my digestions issues, during my second surgery they confirmed i had no ligaments holding my large intestine in place, and because of that they assume my small intestine moves around following the large intestine and this had caused considerable adhesion damage and was the basis for my bowel contusions. (and that my bowel is adhered to one of my ovarias)
similar to various discussions on this forum, there are a myriad of things that we believe 'trigger' mc into a chronic diagnosable state, (vaccinations, hormone treatment, bacteria, medications, extreme or ongoing high levels of stress), the common thing with mc is the damage to the intestine, the compromised digestion due to inflammation and impact on our immune system function.
since the MC diagnosis and reading the research on this site and on the net, i have wondered many times, if i knew then what i know now, and had eliminated things like Gluten, Dairy from my diet, would things be different now?

So interesting to see how similar we all are in our medical histories. Gabes, I was told I had a fallen womb during my first pregnancy. My uterus was tipped backward and the baby was "dropped" from the 6th month on. Second pregnancy the baby was dropped the whole time. My daughter had the same issues and had surgery recently to repair damaged "caused by childbirth". This is my daughter who went GF about 4 years ago after years of IBS. She hasn't done the Enterolab tests yet, but her sister has and got my 501, as did her son.
Wow, just fascinating to think that all of this could have been gluten all along. My Mom had all of this too, as did most of my 9 siblings. Of the 6 of us still living, at least 4 of us, as well as our kids and some of their kids, are textbook cases for gluten sensitivity.

Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.

Connie great to hear from you... hope you are well and not working tooo hard.
i think the similiaraties across the PP group is why we all feel like we belong, we feel at home here. Years and years of niggling symptoms and/or chronic symptoms and doctors just saying 'IBS' was draining. To get the MC diganosis and find this site was like the rainbow after all the grey clouds...
Tex: thanks for the info re the Vit D and Gerd, straight away I have doubled my VIt D supplementation and am having salmon every second night, within 4 days i can notice a difference the GERD symptoms are less intense and i am not getting up 3 times through the night to take the potassium drink.

Gabes,
That's great news. I hope your symptoms continue to fade away, until they're completely gone.
Please keep us posted.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Gabes,
I am working non-stop, it is crazy busy filmwise here, has been all year. Guess I should just be thankful that we haven't been affected by the economy here. I've so missed all of you. Having a rare few days off and came here straightaway.
I wonder if you have tried drinking coconut water? Seems to be all the rage right now. Very high in potassium.

i sure hope it improves as it was sending me balmy
up 2 - 3 times a night, almost vomitting when putting socks and shoes on, gagging when i go to the bottom draw at work......
Connie, i have just started using coconut oil in cooking (as i can not tolerate many other oils) i didnt realise about the potassium so will definately increase the intake of the coconut oil as well.
as per the discussions in 'ant's thread' about his rib, i have increased magnesium intake digestion wise, and also use magnesium spray and have magnesium salts to do foot baths to assist circulation and reduce muscle aches.

Gabes, funny that I never have used coconut oil for cooking, should have done it long ago and I will try it immediately. Long ago quit using Canola oil and have only been using olive oil. When I was first dx w/MC coconut oil was in my treatment protocol, I think I ate 2 Tbsp/day for quite awhile. The texture of it was a bit off-putting, but it did seem to help with the stomach issues.
Coconut water, I buy VitaCoco for my crew, has more electrolytes than most of the sports drinks and as much potassium as 2 bananas. It doesn't taste particularly good, but other than having some added Vit C, it's all natural. Have you ever tried the apple cider vinegar challenge for GERD?
