Tex,
It cost me a little setback to learn that "wheat-free" does not mean GF, but probably there's barley malt or something lurking...
What fun, making my own chewing gum! I think that would help for situations where a dry mouth is uncomfortable, but drinking tons of fluids is infeasible (like being stuck on an airplane or long car trip)...
Lesley, WOW, you make your own sunscreen! Good for you.

I am usually pretty good at reading labels. But I didn't look at the gum. Pretty silly, huh?
I found that most of the sunscreens around have a bunch of crap in them, and usually no titanium dioxide, which is a key ingredient, along with micronized zinc, which they usually do contain. Raspberry and sesame oils contain natural sunscreen. How much? No means of testing. However I do believe my cream provides as least as much protection as any of the commercial ones out there.

Tex, I ordered the gum making kit, because today I have been going totally crazy sipping and swooshing, trying to suck on a lifesaver, which is SO acid it causes heartburn, and trying to exercise without drinking too much water.
I have been dying to chew gum, but don't want to risk another bad attack of G from the sorbitol. It helps me so much!
I will let you know if it works.
I had chicken, potatoes, stock and some rice. Oh, 1/2 a banana. I still have a horrible stomach ache and feel some gurgling though the Norco is stopping the D. Or any BM for that matter. I HOPE that things will calm down eventually.

Making your own gum is probably a good idea. If it needs to be sweetened, you might be able to add some type of real sugar, (such as powdered, or maple sugar).

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
That's what I thought. I am having so much heartburn and I need my salivary glands to work. Chewing gum really helps me with that. If it works I will get more.
I would MUCH rather not take more meds if I can help it. I have been thinking about it and really don't want another steroid, however "safe" in my system. At some point I am going to get an infection, and will probably be given steroids rather than antibiotics because of the MC. At least I will make sure that I don't get antibiotics if I can help it.
