Ok, my next question is, could you recommend a probiotic which you feel is a good one. I was looking into Culturelle a little bit as it is available at our local Walgreens and one site I visited said it could be used if removed from it's capsule as a yogurt starter.

probiotics

Right now I am taking Jarro-dophilus. It's shelf stable ( no refrigeration needed) and gets through the stomach acids.

A word of caution about replacement yogurts -- I've tried the rice yogurt (AWFUL!!) and the So Delicious Coconut Milk yogurt (good, especially mango passionfruit flavor), but they have an alarming list of emulsifiers and thickeners to TRY to give them the consistency of real yogurt. Xantham Gum, Carageenan and others may cause GI problems for many here. I buy them on occasion since I too was addicted to yogurt pre-MC, but to me they are a dessert-like treat. I don't depend on them for replacing real food.

Now when I have a desire for something yogurt-like, I prefer to make smoothies with fruit, rice protein or other mixes, and Coconut milk as my base.

I take Culturelle as my probiotic (although I often forgot to take it for days). I triend a multistrain probiotic once that made me deathly ill with non-stop D. I do beleive the Culturelle makes a difference. After being off it for 3 days, a complete stool analysis showed I had good levels of lactobacilli, despite having almost none in my diet.

Thanks for that reply on the culturelle and the advice about the yogurt replacements. I looked at Culturelle and saw it did have inulin in it and wondered if that could be a problem but will give it a try.

I use it also. Dr. Fine (of Enterolab) sells it on a separate website. The cheapest location I've found it is at The Vitamin Shoppe online. If you go to a retail Vitamin Shoppe, ask for the web price, which is $15.00 or so.

Hi Zizzle,

Thanks for the tips on yogurt replacements. Probably I should stick w/ real food for awhile and try the yogurt replacements down the road when I'm better healed. Brandy

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the ghee (clarified butter) tip! I made it tonight and it is incredibly easy to make! Brandy

OK, I'm taking Culturelle now each morning and it's only been a week but I have not seen any improvement. I have stopped all dairy as well and have been gluten free for a few years already. I am now going to start to peel and cook the apple I eat on a daily basis. That is the only raw fruit I eat. It's usually canned pineapple or peaches. From my reading today looks like I should toss the canned pineapple for awhile. I do not eat any raw vegetables as I know them to be problematic already. I'm giving this some more time but soon I'm thinking I'll just get the Entero lab extended food test and go from there. The only med I take is Lomotil when I need to be out and about and I feel insecure :) I sure do love this site as you all are so helpful.

Pineapple would almost turn me inside out, back when I was trying to recover. It was so bad, that like lettuce, I still don't crave it, even though I've been in remission for 7 years, now.

Good luck - I hope those changes will do the trick.

Still experiencing a lot of waterery D. Have been gluten free for years and dairy free for 2 weeks. Taking Culturelle now daily as well as Lomotil 2x a day. I suppose I am impatient but I sure wish this would stop. I'm thinking of ordering the Entero test sooner than later or going to my doc and asking for some Entocort.

Try avoiding all sources of soy, (in addition to gluten and dairy), for a week. Since you've been GF for so long, if soy is the culprit, you should see some improvement within a few days.

I do not eat soy that I know of, no soy milk etc. I did use soy oil the other day in cooking but other than that I am pretty sure I have avoided that as well. But I will be extra diligent there too and see if that helps. Thanks for the reply and I'll keep you posted.

Hmmmmm. Do you eat eggs? Eggs are probably the next most common food-sensitivity after soy.

Yes, I do eat eggs. I raise chickens and we have eggs every morning. Yikes, could it be the eggs. I suppose I'll have to give those a no go too. What in the world do people eat for breakfast without grains in the diet? This might do me in.

Nancy, can you eat NO grains? I find that rice chex , corn chex, or Gorilla munch ( like Kix) with almond milk makes a good breakfast.
