Bon voyage, Joe!
I'll be anxiously awaiting your updates! Your backpack of food sounds perfect!
And thanks for letting me know the title of your talk. WOW, you must be a physicist! How exactly can you package a photon? (or am I missing the boat completely?). And thanks to Charlotte for the definition.
Have a safe trip....and send a photo of you and Gabes eating out.
Love,
Polly

Well folks I'm off to the airport.
Charlotte you are correct essentially photonics is light. Usually the term will include the electronics and optics that control emit or sense light as well.
Tex thanks for the send off, I will do my best to impress.
Polly thanks again for all help and food suggestion regarding the salmon in a pouch. While I am a member of the technical staff at MIT, I still associate myself as an engineer as I am very hands on with my research. I try not to work in just the theoretical world, I find that there are many more discoveries if you are willing to get your hands a bit dirty.
The packaging part of the title really talks about how to package or encase the sensors with their very unique requirements for service in a very inhospitable environment.
Thanks again for all the help.
Note:Nurse Nestle is not happy with me leaving. She always seems to know when I am about to leave and she gives me this non-ending look...
