More than one tTg, My endocrinologist

Post by Lucy »

Hi there,

Guess I just never thought about it before, but recently discovered that there's more than one tTg. For instance, the one in the brain is tTg6, and it's involved in some of the neurological disorders related to gs.

Perhaps we can come up with some reading material explaining where the various tTg's are found, but right now, I'm headed back to bed.

Has the board discussed this before? I've missed alot of posts during the last three years.

Oh, and when I did my annual endochrinologist visit to check my thyroid med levels (I don't have a thyroid gland), my endo told me that another endo in town who also specializes in metabolism and bones told him that he'd had several patients with osteoporosis that had reversed on a gf diet.

This didn't happen to my sister and I and at least one person on this board that I'm aware of, but I guess it happened to these folks. The gf diet sure fixed everything else!! Wonder if they were also dairy free as my sister and I are.

Doc may have actually meant that their bone loss stayed put, rather than reversed, so I'm hoping my last bone density results will be better than I anticipated they would be. Should be getting those soon, I think.

Last year, I remember my endo telling me that he was going to start testing more people for celiac disease. This year, he seemed rather enthused about the possibilities of a gf diet. I'm not sure he remembers telling me his plan to test more folks for it last year, but anyway...

Anyway, my BP was sooo low this time, so I told him that it had reversed since I'd been on the gf diet, so he told me "maybe I should get on that diet, so I can stop taking all these meds." He's had his thyroid removed and has osteoporosis as well, so I'd always wanted to suggest it, so now I don't have to. He even asked me if they'd told me I had IBS, and then said that he thinks that everyone with IBS really has celiac disease (think he's using this interchangeably with gluten sensitivity, but hey, it's real progress.) This guy's a research type with a PhD along with his MD. He even knows about the connection of peripheral neuropathy to gs, which really shocked me. Think he knows some people who's peripheral neuropathy got better but didn't go away. Maybe it's like the gluten ataxia people who have it permanently if they don't go on the diet by 6 months after these neuro symptoms appear???

Sorry if I don't make sense this time of morning, and make mistakes, but it's difficult to think straight when you're sooo sleepy.

Yours, Luce
