Life is good!

Post by CAMary »

We just got back from Hawaii where we celebrated our 15th anniversary last week. We took the whole family and the kids loved seeing the sights around Oahu...they barely even fought the whole time!! We got a deal on lodging as we had to listen to a timeshare presentation - but we were prepared for the obnoxious high-pressure sell, and it wasn't like that at all! Our rep was totally laid-back so it was no big deal. And the kids loved all of the pools and recreation activities! So we took in the tropical drinks, sights and sun and had a really nice trip! We mostly cooked in our suite, and the local Safeway had several of my GF staples, so it was pretty easy...

I had a job interview the day before we left. I got an e-mail requesting a follow-up "tryout" (for a teaching position) which I just did this week. The principal had gotten over 150 responses to the ad (i found it on craigslist) but for whatever reason she and I "clicked" and I was offered the job!! CA is a mess right now and public school teachers are being laid off in droves. This is a private school with small class sizes and I'll have second grade (my favorite  ). It is 14 miles from home, and the schedule totally meshes with my kids' school calendar.

We will go the first week in August on our semi-annual visit to the in-laws. Then I'll have 2 weeks to get my classroom set up and start the year...I got the "all clear" from my oncologist 2 weeks ago at my annual visit.

Like I said, life is good!! :toast: And oh yeah - my tummy is behaving, too!

Love,Mary

Mary,
We've been contemplating visiting Hawaii again, heck any vacation would do right now, but I've been concerned about managing my diet. It's nice to read that you were able to manage yours by being in a suite and that you found a Safeway store which carried GF foods.

I'm glad you got the teaching position and hope you have a great first year.

Mary,

So happy that things are going well for you -- vacation, no cancer, and now the good news with the new school. It will be nice having small classes. I do hope your family will be able to ride out the California "storm."

Yours, Luce

Hi Mary, I'm a 2nd grade teacher in Utah on a year round schedule. We start our new school year this Monday. I've spent the past week preparing. I've spent some years in upper grades, and 2nd is the heaven of education. I missed out on a trip to Hawaii last Dec. because I was trying to sort out the MC disaster in my life. That's when I found this board and got on the right path. I hope I get another chance to go. It's nice to meet you. This board is filled with loving, caring people who give the type of support you can't get anywhere else. Good luck, JoAnn

wow! What a wonderful few weeks. A great set up for the New Year (doesn't that whole back-to-school season seem like a new year in some ways more so than in january?).
