casein question for Tex and others

Post by kscolorado »

Okay, remember that I scored negative to casein on enterolab. I have been adding only hard cheeses and a little butter to my diet. I am looking like a teenager again with acne spots on my face and chest and along my hairline. The one's along my hairline itch. Could there be another reason for a response to dairy other than the IGA? It seems like an allergy reaction to me? I guess there is the slim chance that I could have accidently ingested gluten but I am pretty careful. Maybe more fat? any thoughts?

Kathy,

Yes there could be another reason - the Insulin-like Growth Factor-1, (IGF-1), for example. Of course, you may still have to blame the casein for that, since casein has been shown to increase the plasma immunoreactive IGF-1 concentration. Here's a discussion on IGF-1:

and here are the articles that are cited in the first post. The first is the conclusion of a study done on teenage girls, and the second is a long article by none other than my favorite paleo author, Dr. Loren Cordain:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
