New problem

Post by Lucy »

Hi gang,
Hate to bring in another problem -- seems they are everywhere around here lately, doesn't it?
My mother who is 88 has started to have some fresh bleeding which is apparently coming from somewhere inside her internal female parts.
I'm hoping that it will resolve itself on it's own, but if it's something more serious, she would not be a candidate for surgery, so this could be very difficult.
I wonder if possibly she could have a Vit K deficiency, considering that she only gets supplementation??

Yours, Luce

Luce,

It's certainly possible. There are many possible reasons, but one that might be especially relevant is the fact that stomach acid is necessary for the development of vitamin K, and stomach acid tends to diminish as we age. That effect would have to be amplified by her eating disorders. IOW, she might not be producing enough stomach acid to get the job done, among other things.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
