Hubbie spreads the word

Post by Rosie »

I think that my husband is even more incensed than I am at how the medical profession has been so unwilling/unable/clueless about bowel disorders and the importance of diet in controlling symptoms. If there isn't a quick fix with a drug or surgery, they apparently don't want to spend the time working with patients to figure out what might help.

Last night my husband was telling me about a golfing aquaintance he ran into who he hadn't seen in a while. It turns out that he had had a portion of his colon removed because of diverticulitis, but he was still having serious intestinal issues and his doctor was mystified because it didn't seem to be diverticulitis. My hysband proceeded to tell him about MC and the importance of diet, especially gluten avoidence, in controlling it and other IBD's. His aquaintance told him that his doctor had NEVER discussed any sort of diet-related treatment, and he was very excited about looking into this further because he was getting so depressed and frustrated over his problems. So hopefully this guy will find some help, but obviously not from his doctor......

Tex, I was suprised that two guys would be talking in the golf locker room about digestive problems, but my husband has always been the type of person people confide in. :talk:

You never know what men are liable to talk about when they get together, and I suspect the same is probably true of women.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Kudos to your husband.

I really think word of mouth and the internent is going to help get the word out.

I do know Doctors and alot of people in general roll their eyes when you tell them that you are investigating your condition on the internet. But if we don't try to help ourselves nobody else is going to do it for us.

So many people think Doctors are god-like, all knowing, creatures (and we all know alot of Doctors feel that way about themselves). But we need to look into things ourselves and also not be so quick to take every pill they try to shove down our throats.

Your husband's friend sounds just like my mom, same damn thing, she has no end of problems still.
