Just spoke with Tex

Post by Polly »

Hi Good Buddies,

I just spoke with Tex. It was so good to hear his voice.....he sounded upbeat and strong. He is still in the hospital (ICU) and will probably be there for a few more days for observation. His brother is there visiting him. He has had only fluids so far but says the hospital has apparently become more aware of the GF diet since he was last there and he will probably be given something to eat something later today.

Apparently the cause of the bleeding was related to divertculitis. An infected area of the colon from the diverticulitis may have eroded into a blood vessel to cause the bleeding. At least that's what they think. Tex did have a colonoscopy which showed nothing major except evidence of the diverticulitis. The docs think this is a one-time problem, unlikely to occur again, but want to observe him a bit longer to be sure. It seems unlikely that this was in anyway due to MC.

He lost a lot of blood FAST. Luckily, his bother lives nearby and drove him to the hospital, which is about 20 mi. away. He has been given 4 units of blood, although his brother says it was 6. All is stabilized now, including blood pressure. He told me that both his father and brother experienced major bleeding from the colon like this.

I asked him if there is anything we can do, and he couldn't think of anything. I told him I'd be happy to post whatever he likes - just call and let me know - because posting from his phone is not the easiest thing to do.

I know he'll enjoy seeing your posts to him when he returns home!

Love,

Polly

Thanks Polly for the update. We really should get together and send flowers to him at home but he does the flower fund. Would be willing to take care of it and more than happy to foot the bill. Please let me know.

Thanks for letting us know, can only imagine how scary that must have been for him. Seems reasonable to keep him there a bit longer, just to be sure. I sure hope they were able to repair the blood vessel and he doesn't need to have surgery.

Hi Maggie!

I think Joan may be correct that Pegster does the flowers. I have just sent Peg an email to alert her of the situation. Good thinking!

Polly, thanks for letting us know how Tex is doing. It sounds like he's had quite an ordeal, and needs to take it easy and let his body repair itself from all that's happened. Coming right on top of his blood pressure scare, he's had a rough week!

Thanks Polly

Glad his brother is there and you talked to them both. It would be doubly scary to be alone.

Best wishes, Ant

Morning Polly,

I knew Peggy used to do the fund but thought Tex had taken it over since we rarely see Peg around here. Either way, glad we got something off to Wayne.
