How is your knee mending after the surgery? Are you having a lot of pain? Do you think you'll be able to run again (after you dig yourself out)? Are you still doing physical therapy?

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
It is much better, but only just recently. It has been 3 months since surgery, and I am finally walking normally, although still not as fast as usual. I ditched the cane last week, although I still take it outside with all of the ice and snow. And I still have to actually THINK about how to walk, so that I don't revert to that hobbling I have been doing for 5 months since the injury. I stopped PT after about a month.
I think the two reasons this has taken so long: it was at least 2 mo. between the injury and surgery, which gave my muscles a lot of time to deteriorate (I wish they had suggested PT BEFORE the surgery), and there is so much snow this winter and thus not much chance for outside walking.
Much as I'd like to, I am considering no more running - just brisk walking. I guess it's time to be prudent.
Thanks so much for checking up on me.
Love,
Polly
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Yes, I do remember that once I resumed walking normally, my unused muscles hurt a lot and I had to retrain myself. I used a cane for several weeks, as I recall. Doesn't it make you feel old?
I've been going to the mall to walk this winter, but I keep getting distracted by all the sales!
I'm sure that you'll be completely back to normal by summer. Brisk walking is probably more appropriate for our age, though I know that you loved running. I like to ride my bike more than I like to walk. I get to go further and see more in the same amount of time. It's probably not as good for the osteoporosis, though.
I hope you continue to progress and feel back to your old self soon.
