Our dog has C

Post by JLH »

Kind of nerve wracking. She happens to have a vet appointment tomorrow. I hope it isn't anything else like an obstruction or bloat or torsion. I fed her a tsp. of olive oil (I found that online).

I need to get her a muzzle to wear outside because she will eat anything like acorns etc.

The oil is the best trick..... it will help the dog to cough up the offending item or will help them to pass it.

not sure how big your dog is. When i had boxer dogs and if they had been chewing raw bones and would start their weird coughing due to small bits of bone being stuck i woudl give them a big tablespoon of oil every 12 hours.
the oil is also good for their coats and skin (fleas like dry skin)

Thanks, she's a Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound) about 56 or so pounds. The site I saw said 2 tsp. of oil max. I had to put treats in it.

the item is inhibiting the digestion.

I am guesssing there was lots of salive, as they produce lots of saliva to try and 'move' the item
and they use their whole body to do a weird cough before they vomit??

that is why i used to give them lots of oil, it helps them to vomit and bring the item up and not rip their digestive track

I wonder if we need to take her to the emergency clinic even though our vet didn't seem worried. He was just out of the clinic ready to go home so that may have had something to do with it.

if she is not constantly trying to heave, and she is able to rest then she should be ok
check her tummy for distention and pain

when was her last BM and how often does she normally do them?

Canned pumpkin works too, but if you're concerned I'd say the vet is the best option. Just to make sure there isn't something going on, especially if she eats everything!

Vet visit showed a full anal gland (an ongoing problem). She's on a rice and boiled chicken diet.

Vet said her abdominal and bowel sounds were fine.

He talked about sending her to the vet school and possibly having a colonoscopy!!!!!!Don't want to send her there because they euthanized, by mistake, a greyhound of the gal who did our home and yard/fence inspection. They also wanted over $300 from her!

She has been getting 1/4 C canned pumpkin with her dinner for a long time. I guess it doesn't help........

She is normally on (GF, SF, DF) Blue Buffalo kibble with a few T. of canned food.

She's supposed to go to obedience school tonight.........
